BGS vs Aviapartner
Dear friends,
What is going on with BGS ?, the word goes around BGS is going to lose Lufthansa as a customer from January first ( this is a hugh contract ).
I hear that Aviapartner is talking to DHL to hire experienced handlers, because they cant handle this capacity with there currant employees.
And if this is true what are the consequences for BGS ?.

Hey!
Ach, maatschappijen verwisselen zoveel van handler. Aviapartner verliest klanten aan BGS en BGS aan Aviapartner. I think that's life. Voor zover ik weet verloopt deze strijd nog altijd legaal dus... Btw werkte reeds twee jaar als jobstudent voor Aviapartner (en in januari/februari stage), they definitely rule
zeer goeie sfeer onder collega's!
Companies change a lot of handler. Aviapartner is losing customers to BGS and BGS to Aviapartner. That's life I guess. But as far as I know this "battle" is still legal... Btw I worked for Aviapartner (studentjob) the past two years and they definitely rule

I work for BGS. Just asked some redcap colleages of me. They say it is not true that BGS will lose the contract with Lufthansa. BTW BGS doesn't have the contract with Lufthansa. The handler for Lufthansa is Globeground. But because Globeground has no Tarmac License, a redcap from BGS has to be there too to sign the loadsheets and push the gate. So BGS is just supervising the handling of Lufthansa that is done by Globeground.
I heard following rumours :
both Thomas Cook and SAS will go to AVP for ground handling beginning 2005
@waldova : according to my info Globeground is in charge of the loadsheet and BGS in charge of the loading, with the redcap supervising this loading and positioning/removing the nose-loader.
@airbus fan : if memory serves right, AVP is in charge of cargo handling of LH
As said before, airlines talk/discuss al the time if handling charges/services are at stake. Some reps even use this as a threat : give us a good service or we change groundhandler.

Today's news :
The Brussels handling company GlobeGround, has been warned by its main customers (Lufthansa and Thomas Cook) that they will change their handling company if GlobeGround does not gain acess to the air side.
GlobeGround, is calling on the Council of State to change that restrictive law, but it fears that Lufthansa and Thomas Cook will not wait that long.
Is this just a waring ! So maybe the gossip is true that Aviapartner signed a contract with Lufthansa already....

@Tristar,
I think this is not so easy to answer, because all depends the criteria.
You can take into account : services provided (catering, ops, ground handling; maintenance, pax-service), number of staff, number of airplanes handled, numbers of pax handled, amount of cgo handled.
Also note that 2 handling companies can handle same flight but different services, ie catering by Kitchen Gourmet, maintenance by Delta and other ground services by AVP.

Well, I think that BGS is still the biggest in Brussels. They have the biggest costumer in Brussels, namely SN Brussels Airlines and also the second biggest costumer Virgin Express. So I think BGS is still the biggest.
Anyway if Lufthansa and the rest choose for BGS they are for sure way out the biggest one in Brussels. I hope they will get the contract.
I know also that BGS is recruiting many new check in agents. Maybe this has to do with the fact that they want to get the contract. Because they will need many more check in agents if they would like to do the check-in for Lufthansa. Maybe this is already a sign tha BGS is going to get the contract. Let's keep hope high!!
But what could also happen is that Lufthansa will choose for a combination like some airlines have, catering gate gourmet, check in BGS and tarmac handling by Avia. Everything is possible here

Good for Aviapartner, I know some people working there and know the crew is high dedicated.
Its hard to fiend a company these days where people work together and where nobody wants to lieve. Guess that is saying something about the company.
Guess Lufthansa is going to be next to announce there new handling agent !.
