My all time favorite movements in BRU

Post by OO-JFP »

Hi,

compared to the older days of my spotters "career", we are really spoiled now with information about movements in Brussels, especially on Luchtzak.
20-30 years ago it was a matter of reading them yourself as we didn't have access to all kinds of databases to gather the info.
When going through my database though I must conclude that Brussels never had the big numbers in terms of daily movements but we still managed to see some interesting ones.
My top 20 looks like this (more or less):
5A-DLS F27-600 Libyan Arab (AUG91)
9N-ABN B727-116C Royal Nepal (OCT87)
9Q-CBF DC.4 Air Zaire (DEC74)
9Q-CYD DC.3 No titles (29DEC83 crashed on delivery 15JAN84)
A2-ACA L382G Air Botswana (FEB80)
A6-ABM/GRM HS748 Emirates Air Service (JAN93)
CCCP-09329 An22 AFL (FEB88) followed by 09305 2 days later
CP-2273 A310-304 LAB (MAY85)
CU-T121 Britannia 253 Aero Caribbean (NOV87)
CX-BJV B.707-331 Aero Uruguay (NOV79)
HL7457 B747SP-5B KAL (JUN98)
LV-JZM CL44-D4-6 Transportes Aereo Rioplatense (MAY76)
MT-1037 B.727-281Adv MIAT (SEP95)
N100BB CL44-D4-6 Blue Bell (MAY75)
N125US L.188 Schillelagh (same day as N100BB)
N4998S CL44-J Cargosur (MAY79)
N8973U DC.8-62 Hawaiian (JUL87)
RP-C99 L382G Philippine Aerotransport (JAN78)
TG-ALA B.727-25C Aviateca (OCT86)
ZS-SBG B.727-44C SAA-SAL (couldn't find the date :( )

I hope you can agree that I prefer the ones above over the Braniff's (Calder), OO-XTG (TEA B737), Air Tchad DC10, Air Ceylon DC.8, Saudia B.727 (TS-JHN), Gulf Air B737 (OO-SDN) and so many others that visited as regular flight but who would be much appreciated nowadays too.

Do you have a similar list ?

All the best,
OO-JFP

You seem to have a very interesting database, OO-JFP. Yes, I do remember some of the birds in your list, but I never took any notes of them.

Great post!

Quite nice too, Stef.

We seem to have a few things in common: for sure there were some nice European planes hanging around too but we prefer the "smokers" from a bit further away.
Your most recent one is already 8 years ago, mine 10 years if I forget the KAL SP. Maybe we're getting older but I'm afraid it's the scene that has changed. It's Airbus and Boeing all over the place with little room left the others. Glad that we still have the EC in Brussels and Sabena Technics that fights for market share. I wished they started to battle many years ago.
Anyway, I hope to see the Eva 747/4F tomorrow.

Best regards,
OO-JFP

PS: QNNM, where is your list ? Still digging or so ?

Hey -JFP,

Sorry for my late reply due to a 'short-but-effective-reg-spotting-trip' abroad.
Another sorry for not having such a list...although it will be pretty similar to yours

However since you suggested me to dig, I discovered following faded glories:
02 jul 1970 N737PA 747 PA (my first 747 in Bru)
10 oct 1970 HS-TGG Caravelle Thai
26 nov 1970 OO-SGA 747 SN (delivery).
Superb souvenirs on the feb-mar 1973 French ATC strike, when most
Paris traffic was diverted to Bru;
but also 2 Gulf Air Tristars G-BDCW (30jan76) and G-BDCX (7mar76)
and please don't forget the nostalgic C9-ARF 707 of Deta (sep76 - aug80)
and the Air Niugini's 707 P2-ANA & ANB (1985) ...

As for your SA 727 date remark, I noted ZS-SBE on 30aug71 and ZS-SBF on 18sep71.

Hehe, I was actually waiting for a reply of qnnm!

Hi OO-JFP!

I really appreciated your list... nothing is more 'nostalgic' than a lof from the past.

Most of those airlines are unknown to me, but the thought of Caravelles, B707's etc... hmmmm!

Thanks again for posting!

Regards
Frederic

Q707 and OOFJFP,

Those are very impressive lists .. shame we did not have the possibilities of making pictures then...

CCCP-09329 An22 AFL (FEB88) followed by 09305 2 days later
I still remeber these aircraft arriving, one of them came on a wednesday, flying in the MIR spacestaion to an expo at the brussels 'cinquantenaire'.

Thats the good price of getting older ;).

Well luckily enough i saw a An22 @ EBOS back in 1996. There is still a sole machine commercial operated in the world by ADB. Perhaps we should have another expo of Russian technology in Brussels to see this monster, but i fear the Russians have no money + the fact that the An22 is in Ukraine now.

The An225 is still on my list and as long it flies there is hope...

Btw the ones that saw the Tu114 back in the sixties are also very lucky birds.
