Server only using 75% of processor cache size [fixed]

Post by luchtzak »

Dear members,

server has a little problem with the processor cache size, number 2 only uses 256kb iso 512kb. (75% of total)

Processor Information

Processor #1 Vendor: AuthenticAMD
Processor #1 Name: Unknown CPU Type
Processor #1 speed: 2133.635 MHz
Processor #1 cache size: 512 KB

Processor #2 Vendor: AuthenticAMD
Processor #2 Name: Unknown CPU Type
Processor #2 speed: 2133.635 MHz
Processor #2 cache size: 256 KB <----

this can result in slower loads.

I also noticed that the servertime is not correctly working (clock works faster), I think it's related to the first problem.

Anyway the tech-support is busy fixing the problem, will let you know when the problem is solved.

Bart

That is the explanation of the strange static’s of today. Sometimes there are page views for a hour in the future.
The list with visitors is also becoming crazy, but this will also be a problem of the server clock.

Greetz,

Dave

Bart,

Why don't you use a feature that adjusts the time every 10 minutes, or as often as you want, like on http://www.kaska.demon.co.uk/tardis.htm which I use at home for keeping the time right on my computer?

I could but some systems are desperately looking for the servertime. e.g. the forums: last messages, etc...

I am positive that the wrong servertime is related to the missing CPU cache. Just checked with tech-support and they will replace the malfunctioning part ASAP.

Besides running on 75% of it's capacity the server is performing rather good no :?:

thanks for the patience 8)

Bart - use a time server and problem will be fixed !
(most Linux distries - eg. Fedora Core 2 offer you a ready to run implementation of a time server - you have only to put into the name or IP adress of the time server you like to use :-) ....)

Yes, in the WHM-panel I can sync the time with a timeserver but that needs to be done manually.

Bart ask the sysadmins, there should be a way to implement it fixed into the OS - I mean that your Linux server is doing this automatically
(the Linux AMD 64 bit system I had in Vienna was doing this fine for me ;) but as I'm not longer in VIE I cannot look onto this system where the config file might be ....)
