IB/SNBA : difference in taxes for same flight?

Post by airbuske »

Hi guys,

Even it's oktober i'm already plannin my city trip for
march 2005 to Barcelona.

Dep. 26/03/2005
Return 29/03/2005

I checked Iberia and SNBA

IB gave me fare 79 euros and taxes 34,21 euros total 113,21 euros
SN gave me fare 79 euros and taxes 42,21 euros total 121,21 euros

these prices are for the same flight but the flight is operated by Iberia.
Why such a smal difference in taxes?

Greetins

The least SN can do is to offer their passengers a voucher so the poor SN-passenger, who already has to fly with an IB airplane, don't need to pay for the food.

At first, I have absolutely not one idea, but these are some reasons I could think of:

- The Brussel Airport Authority charges lower taxes for foreign airlines to attract more traffic;
- Maybe the Brussels Airport Authority has imposes higher taxes on SN planes, because they use the airport more frequently;

Of course this has to do with which airline provides the services for the passenger, so that if one books with SN but the flight is operated with Iberia, one is counted as a SN passenger.

But these are just speculations, don't pin me on this theories. :wink:

Edit: Sorry, was sleeping on this one :oops:

Are fuel surcharges included in the taxes? I thought i saw that once on the printout i had from one of my trips. Maybe SN and IB have different fuel surcharges?
Maybe SN has negotiated a deal with the Brussel Airport Authority for lower taxes
In the example given SN is the airline having the higher taxes. But with the same logic we can maybe assume that IB has a serious tax reduction in Barcelona.

Aren't the taxes cut up in the various parts? Normally i think that the taxes are cut up for their various purposes online? Haven't checked this with SN or IB, but i guess most airlines have this in their online booking engines.

Greets,

Pieter

If U want no meal then go with virgin express for 80,21 taxes included.

Plenty of things to do with the 30 euros you would spare...

BruBiac ,

I checked VEX but it would cost me 174 euros for the flights that I prefer so it will be Iberia.

I saw the same thing too.
If you would check on Virgin Express and Vueling, both offering flights to Valencia you can see a huge difference between the taxes.

The ticket for round trip is with Virgin Express is at it lowest price 38€ and with Vueling 70€. But when you add up the taxes to ticket becomes with Virgin Express 80€ and with Vueling 97€. This difference is already a lot less even if you pay more for the trip with Vueling. This comes because Virgin Express charges an extended security tax and than also a fuel surcharge while Vueling doesn't account any of these taxes.
So it really depends on what the companies policy is.
