Vlaanderen Vakantieland: Wanted: Spotters

Post by Bottie »

Just received this E-mail:

Beste,

Anyone intrested in a "spottersmeeting?"

[note by sn26567: Bottie, a short English translation would have been useful for our non-Dutch speaking readers. Can you please provide it? I have no time today...]

This is surely great news, and if they put our websites on the screen the viewers can visit us and see with their own eyes how serious we are in our hobby.

Can you ask them if other people are allowed too, or that it's only for the ones who are invited.

All possessors of a luchtzak T-shirt, you have to wear it visibly, even if it's damn cold out there on the 25th & 26th

Great news for Belgian spotters
Great opportunity to promote all your websites, and of course this one :)

maybe this is an ideal opportunity to address some of the misunderstandings about nightflights, very loud MD-11's, DHL and dispertion plans ... Let the world (or at least the flemmish people), know that there are also people pro! And that the complainers are only a small minority!

 Oh my god  I'm so unhappy it will take place on a school day 8O I hope Mister Hans D would change the date to at least a wednesday !

Me with my big mouth would say what I'm trying to say so long :!: Would be a fantastic opportunity for us spotters and pro-aviation people !!

Kind Regards,
Rutger :!:

I'd like to be there as well, but if they want to do it on a weekday I won't be able to make it unfortunately...

this would be indeed a good opportunity to do so,.... but i don't think they are interested in that, it's about a touristic program that want's to help other people to find out the possibility's of spotting round the national airport, not in starting a discusion about the nightflights.
if they succeed in doing that, people will learn to know the "problems" for them selves, see for them selves how important this airport is for our economy and understand that the complainers mostly lives in the new build villa's around the airport.
giving the people the opportunity to see and learn al this for them selves, is mutch more efficient to make those flights acceptable than starting yet an other discussion of pro ore contra ; we had already plenty of those, and it brings no solution as everybody is just concentrating on there own point of view.

Yes, i know WE did have them, but the general public only hears who shouts load, in this case the complainers. So it might be the opportunity for the public to hear the story of the majority instead of always hearing the minority. But indeed this will probably not fit in this episode, but maybe it can be a start to more ....
