I can confirm that this is NOT a joke, as my PC was a victim of this worm-virus too ... And I'm not the only one. I've allready gone to 7 places today to get their PC's virus-free ...
Busy day's ...

Do anti virus softwares offer good protection against this worm thing? I updated my anti virus software today and I'm hoping my PC will be okay. It's also the first time in months that I've updated my anti virus and my system hasn't crashed!!

The anti-virus producers immediately provided a solution, so a very recent update may protect you from this thing.

On the other hand a good firewall does also provide cover.

Actually I'm thinking that the Norton's an McAffe's of this world are themselves producing the virusses and spreading them around on the net. It guarantees them business isn't it ???

I don't think so that Mcafee would do that... Can you imagine if someone finds out !

In fact virusses are not that hard to make. In this case the virus used a fault in the windows-coding and script-kiddies (most of the time less than 16 years old) abuse the fault to create mayhem and troubles!

A recent update on Mcafee or Norton Antivirus, a firewall like www.zonealarm.com is totally free and works fine for me allready for years, don't open files (even from your friends) with .com and .exe extensions and don't surf too much on spywarez/pornographic and other websites of that kind!

I remember stories about people who didn't know that they needed to update their virusscanner ! 8O 8O

Let's hope that the internet doesn't slow down because of that particular virus!

ciao!

Bart,

That guys with black sunglasses that are following me everywhere I go, the strange messages I get on the phone ("you'll be dead soon ...." etc. ...), the explosion of my car some days ago and the fact that my girlfriend is acting strange these days .... maybe it's all because of the fact that I found out the real business of Norton's and McAfee ..... :D

I use the eTrust EZ antivirus from Computer Associates ($9.95/year - it used to be free :() and never had any trouble whatsoever. The updates (3-5 per week) are downloaded as soon as I open my computer. I certainly can recommend it.

My anti-virus is PC-cillin 2002, it came with my PC and so that is why I installed that one. It also includes a firewall and a site trap filter. Although it always seems to crash my system when I update it (with the exception of today), I have never had my PC infected with a virus and I've never had my PC hacked, so it must be doing something right.
