Strike at BRU airport on 1 October from 13:00 to 14:00
Moderator: Latest news team
Just think what you want, we did not disturb any traffic, it was the choice of BIAC and Belgocontrol to stop activities for 15'. Also the people of the other companies at the airport all came on voluntary base. Even at EAT operations had someone who stayed to keep everything running. I repeat that it was not the intention to discomfort the passengers but just to let the government, management and the rest see that we are behind our job. If you choose to behave as a "sitting duck" well just go for it but we will not. And this will be the last thing I have to say about this action.
Amen
Amen

I agree with you Pilatus, and i hope for you and all the others that there will be a solution very soon.
and i also hope that everyone blowing hot and cold about possible delays (that have NEVER been there) will lose there jobs very soon! Then you will know what it is to be unemployed

Pilatus,
I understand you people working at EAT. It must be terrible to live in such an uncertain evironment during several weeks or even months. I understand that you poeple (employees of DHL/EAT) want to show you frustrations and show to everybody that the decision will involve thousands of jobs. I understand all that BUT I don't understand why they wanted to take innocent passengers as hostage to show they anger. NO the innocent passengers shouldn't be punished IT'S the government that should be punished !!!!!!!!!
Striking at the airport won't make those politicians move, believe me !!!

Of course not, people have to move and to battle in life.If you choose to behave as a "sitting duck" well just go for it but we will not.

Although I reject the strike, I do like the sense of humour of the DHL unions: they've told Belga (the official Belgian press agency) that all departing flights between 13h15 and 13h30 were put on hold: 4 in total.
"In het kader van de vakbondsacties van DHL hebben ook de luchtverkeersleiders van Belgocontrol vrijdagmiddag even het werk neergelegd. Daardoor konden vanuit Zaventem geen vliegtuigen vertrekken tussen 13.15 uur en 13.30 uur. In totaal hebben vier vliegtuigen een kwartier moeten wachten om te kunnen vertrekken. Dat verklaarde woordvoerder Guy Viselé aan het persagentschap Belga."
Well ladies and gentlemen, take a look at http://www.biac.be/departures, where you will see that there were no flights scheduled between 13h16 and 13h39! (Unless they mean that 4 ... DHL flights were put on hold).

I am not a union man, but how come I hear less complaints if the railwaymen block the rails for a pay-raise, the postmen go on strike because they are against the Georoute system, the truckers block some highways for better conditions,......
In this case, check-in was suspended for 15min, and this on an off-peak moment, so the delays were minimalized.

= sounds like communismI hope that there once will be a law to forbid actions/strikes like this
You hear less because we don't discuss it over here744rules wrote:I am not a union man, but how come I hear less complaints if the railwaymen block the rails for a pay-raise, the postmen go on strike because they are against the Georoute system, the truckers block some highways for better conditions,......
15 minutes is ok but an hour which was originally planned is something different. In this case, check-in was suspended for 15min, and this on an off-peak moment, so the delays were minimalized.
Just my point Chris.744rules wrote:

I just wanted to point out that some people can be quit selfish.
If, for instance, you have to rely on trains for your job, and there are none, you have probs.
I can imagine that there are lot's of train-men that don't care how many nightflights there are, what the noise quota are,......
A friend worked day and night...a whole year long.
With his hard earned money he planned to go on his first holiday since years today. (Bulgaria)
Can you imagine how they felt when they saw the DHL union man saying in a cool tone that they were going to block roads to the airport and they were going to strike this afternoon?
Anyway, the union foreman didn't bother for his hard earned holiday and he didn't bother either when my friend lost his job last year because he was getting too old. So I think the DHL union lost some sympathy this way.
The public opinion and interest about DHl is, for as far as I can feel in my region, rather low. Same happened to Sabena, media made a daily soap of it...
People only got high sympathy when it was too late and received tv-images of crying sabena employees and last flights honored by fireman or employees walking hand in hand over the apron.
The public blamed the management of Sabena for the closing. The management never really had "a face" on television, nobody remembers their names.
This time I believe people living around the airport region will be blamed for it. They will be "the bad guys" in this story. If DHL closes and we get the same story in the media, the public will strongly remember the "bad guys" complaining about nightflights. So next time they complain about some company flying noisy airplanes, they're on there own.

Hi folks!
Today was another stiking day at BRU, too bad i didn't
knew it,else i would have go to there today,to simpatize.
Can also believe that some passengers 'll be furious due
the strike. Me myself, would mind that lot... But, not
eveybody thinks like that. Do find it also that i might
be too much to involve people who hasn't got anything
to do with this case, and also a lot of people from
abroad going home. Do find it quite a surprise that they
really strikes,so that the airport was completely perrolised,
it is,anyway, not BIAC's fold, they too want DHL to stay.
Who doesn't?
by the way this is my 50th post. hip hip-hoera!!! :jumpy:
Best regards: Yannick
