DHL expansion?

Hi Killerwhale,
I don't complain about where I live (it is still bearable, at least between 24.00 amd 06.00 it is quiet), and I knew it when I started to live here.
I can put myself in the shoes of those who complain, though. I don't take your argument about those people who decided themselves to live there, that is a bit of a short-sighted argument ... Anyhow, the whole dicussion has nothing to do any longer with noise or whatever else, just political profiling of the lowest kind from all sides, and I am glad it is all a bit "ver-van-mijn-bed"-show.

Yes, make it Bevekom - Beauvechain Federal. EBBEeurojet wrote: If me, arm chair expert, were to decide, I would move the entire cargo business to Beauvechain: close enough to Brussels en highways, only country-side around, close enough to linguistic border to everyone's welcome to work there
In the elections Ecolo got 2 seats in 17 and EC has a comfortable majority. Eurojet you are a genius!

Re: Just my 2 cents.
That's what most of us already suspected. Vatry is a nice diversion (or shoud we say dispersion?). But at how much do you estimate the chances of BRU and/or LEJ in the current Belgian political situation?themole wrote:It will be: Brussels or Leipzig or Brussels and Leipzig, end of story.

I would like to reply on Jense's comment in the following topic: https://www.aviation24.be/postt6383.html
The B777 doesn't exist as cargo plane yet and the MD11F isn't a replacement for the A300 fleet at all. (I suppose that it's the A300 fleet which needs to go ? )
I suppose that the best replacement aircraft which can be aquired quite quickly is the A300-600F. But is its cargo hold size comparable to the one of the A300-200's ??
Chris
First of all, if I heard it well on TV they were talking about a fleet renewal which could be done in 2 years from now on.In government they talk about B777 or MD-11
Those are way too big and way too noisy for flight @ night

For those of you who read French, read here how the French are laughing at the latest "Belgian joke": http://www3.webzinemaker.net/tourmag/in ... icle=76685

Now it seems the unions of DHL wants to block the airport for 1 hour (according to the VRT radio news), they are trying to convince employees of other companies at the airport.

well i think they really should do that, cause appearently nothing is gonna come from the governments, who showed themselves unable to run a country! I see no other way then a strike. I normally am against strikes (remember Sabena...), but in this case ....

Zaventem will not become the european hub
Sorry guys only in dutch
Zaventem wordt geen Europees knooppunt DHL
(Belga)
"DHL blijft in Brussel", aldus Kruse.
Little translation:
Brussels will not become the european hub
Brussels can never become the european hub! For becoming the european hub is DHL asking 34.000 nightflights. If they don't get those 34.00 nightflights Brussels will not become the main hub. DHL will not leave Brussels. If they get less than 34.000 flights DHL will become the regional hub. If the capacity is not enough for a regional hub , the airport will become an entrance for the Beneluxmarket

well, the benelux scenario is the shrink scenario, so of course the fleet will also shrink.
However the western europe scenario is still alive and this will be an expanding also.

Don't be overpessimistic, guys. DHL needs a location in the centre of its main business area in Europe, the LON/PAR/FRA/AMS rectangle. If they move to LEJ the flights to all their main destinations will be much longer, thus higher costs.
To me, the most likely scenario (if the too many Belgian federal and local governments allow) is that DHL will keep its main hub in Brussels, with a secondary hub in LEJ for the developping Central and Eastern European market.

If they stay in BRU with the so called "regional" hub they will still need EAT. The only question is if EAT can stay that big (I hope so).
Not all planes have the belgian registration, a big part of the B757's are registered in the UK by DHL Air and not by EAT (correct me if I'm wrong).
So if DHL opens its big hub in LEJ, the G registered B757's will most likely go but the belgian planes will stay I presume.
Further more if they want to grow up to 34000 night flights they will probably need a bigger fleet. They can put the older A300's in LEJ (were the restrictions aren't that high) and lease a few more A300-600's for BRU.
Don't shoot me if I'm wrong

At the moment , I'm following "De zevende dag", it was about DHL, nightflights, unemployment in Brussels and the belgian federal system.
There was also a woman against DHL and the nightflights;. She said that DHL wants > 30.000 nightflights in BRU to create their superhub over here *zucht* . It seems they only read the words they want to read. Also, this was a good one, she said the airport has been built at the wrong place !!!
