The official website of Air Sahara is http://www.airsahara.net/airsahara/index.jsp
Air Sahara is part of the Sahara Group (Sahara in Hindi means shelter), a over Rs.50, 000 crore (US$10.98 billion), and fast approaching towards Rs. 1, 00,000 crores (US$ 21.96 billion), diversified conglomerate...., the Sahara Group has varied business interests such as Infrastructure and Housing, Aviation, Mass Communication, Consumer Products, Public Deposit Mobilisation and Satellite TV channel.
Sahara should not be confused with Sahar airport which is the international airport at Mumbai (Bombay). Its named after the Sahar village on which the airport today stands. The airport has been renamed as Chhatrapati Shivaji Int'l Airport.
Chhatrapati Shivaji (1627AD) is revered as the foremost leader and legend in Maharashtra state which Mumbai is part of. Shivaji founded the Hindu kingdom in the Deccan against all odds , fighting against the mighty Mughals. He inspired and united the common man to fight against the tyranny of Mughal ruler Aurangjeb, by inculcating a sense of pride and nationality in them.
The area surrounding the airport is an undeveloped area of Mumbai and has a lot of hutment dwellers and shanties. Bombay being the commercial hub of India attracts people from all parts of India. Many of them come in search of jobs and a better life. But they find that real estate is beyond them and are forced to live on the roads and in shanties, in miserable conditions and sometimes next to the sewer drains.
But a visitor to Bombay should also see the good side of Bombay and take a look at the teaming middle class. When in Bombay, visit downtown near Flora Fountain, and Bandra west. It would be a good idea for crew having an overnight hault in Bombay to stay in Bandra which is nice and yet not too far from the airport. A good hotel in Bandra is the Taj Lands end.
To answer your question about Mumbai or Bombay...After India’s independence, Bombay became home to many people of different cultures who came from all over India. They came to Bombay seeking wealth and opportunity. Bombay’s new cultural makeup was the reason it was renamed in late 1995. The new name, Mumbai, stands for its new identity as a multi-cultural city. Today, at the end of the 20th century, the city of Mumbai is still growing.
I personally and many locals still prefer calling the city Bombay. And its the politicians who prefer calling it Mumbai!!!
