BRUSSEL - Zo'n drie maanden geleden hebben twee Franse jachtvliegtuigen boven Brussel een passagiersvliegtuig van de Spaanse luchtvaartmaatschappij Air Europa onderschept. Dat meldt de Spaanse krant El Pais. Het incident vond plaats op 1 mei, de dag van de uitbreiding van de Europese Unie.
Niet minder dan drie luchtverkeersleiders in Denemarken, Duitsland en Nederland hadden daarvoor tevergeefs geprobeerd de bemanning van de Boeing 737 van Air Europa te contacteren. Het vliegtuig was op weg van Bergen in Noorwegen naar het Spaanse Palma de Mallorca. Er bevonden zich 186 passagiers aan boord.
Er werd alarm geblazen omdat de autoriteiten een zelfmoordaanslag op Brussel of Parijs vreesden. Zes Duitse, Franse en Nederlandse jachtvliegtuigen probeerden de Boeing 737 te onderscheppen. De Franse jagers slaagden er boven Brussel uiteindelijk in om in contact te treden met de piloten van het Spaanse vliegtuig. De Boeing werd een kwartier lang begeleid en mocht daarna zijn route voortzetten omdat de twijfel over een eventuele zelfmoordaanslag onterecht bleek. De twee Spaanse piloten zijn door Nederland wel voor de rechter gedaagd wegens inbreuken op de luchtverkeersregels.

And by the way, I don't think that hijackers or whatever will ever pay a visit to 'www.luchtzak.be'. And if they do, why would they ever trust something that is being written over here?
I mean, I'm sure those guys have sources all over the world and can get good intelligence from the various official sources, not some websites run by aviation enthusiasts.

My opinion is that if real profesional terrorists want to plan an attack using an airliner there's nothing you can do about it.
Remember the last time you flew from BRU and took off from 25R.
How long did it take to fly overhead the atomium and "Mini-Europe"?

It's more concerning the security.
I don't get it very well what they are doing in England. Not so long ago they found some secret security plans on the public road around LHR, knowing that they are a target of terrorists.
What I don't get is the fact they still permit traffic overflying Buckingham Palace

Maybe they have changed approach routes by now? I was thinking about it because I went to London with school after the Easter holidays.
So you're in the middle of London, lying in Hyde Park (some 200-300m from Buckingham) and there is still a lot of traffic passing.
So they let potential "flying bombs" just into the garden of the Queen.
