30/07 : technical for the Icelandair 763 in BRU?
Moderator: Latest news team
According to 'het laatste nieuws' there was an error when routine-checking the engine.
It's been the 4th time in a short period of time that the Boeing 767 from Icelandair had problems:
- 21/06: flight to Jamaica returned because it had problems with a cargo-door, 11 hours delay
- 13/07: flight to Cancun, 9 hours delay due technical,
- 23/07: return from Cancun, 24 hours delay due broken rear-door.
According to Jetair's spokesman Hans Vanhaelemeesch the Icelandair Boeing 767 had an unexpected check from the Belgian Civil Aviation Authority and they found the aircraft perfectly safe.

I think they are having bad luck; a small problem, only 1 aircraft and a thight charter-schedule can create major delays.

When I arrived fridaymorning around 5.30am to do some spotting, the a/c was standing near Hangar40 with all doors open and technicians working on the plane, don't know what was wrong with it
Icelandair = problems
I booked a trip with vip selection to Mexico and my flight number for departure was FI1865.(BRU-VRA-CUN) Our plane left BRU at 8u, so right on time
The plane was a 767-300 and we sat in comfort class so the seating was 2-2-2. The flight went smooth, we got a blanket a pillow a headset and a survival kit. During the flight we got a warm handkerchief to refresh ourselves. The food was good, we got 2 meals. The crew was mixed (tui belgium - Icelandair) and was very friendly.
We landed at Varadero (Cuba) at 14:00 . Normally it would take 1u and than we would leave to Cancun. The passengers for Cuba left the plane and new passengers for BRU got on. The door closed and we waited. Then the pilot informed us that there was a problem with the right cargo door, but it would only take 5 min. Some joke
We had to wait in the plane for about 7-8 hours. Fun ha? Then we could leave the plane and wait in the airport. You should know that there was no airco. In the airport we waited apx. 6 hours. Than we got the bad news that the flight to CUN was canceled. We got back on the plane to get our hand luggage and then the local jetair office arranged hotels for 267 people. We got our luggage's and took a bus to a hotel. It was a Cuban 4 star hotel
. We were just happy to see a bed after 30 hours.
The next day the hotel received a fax that the plane would leave at 12 o'clock. Once we were in the plane they told us that the door was fixed, the reason why it took so long was because only one man was able to repair the door. After 2 hours we arrived at Cancun (finally). We had just one small problem, they had put our luggage in the compartment for BRU
. But in Cancun we had a very friendly ground attendant and we got all our baggage back.
By the way our hotel was great
.
Our plane back to BRU was delayed for 12 hours, but we could stay in our hotel so it wasn't that bad.

That's exactly what I said a few weeks ago in another topic.luchtzak wrote: I think they are having bad luck; a small problem, only 1 aircraft and a thight charter-schedule can create major delays.
Planes have all kinds of technical problems on a regular basis. Most of the time we don't see the effetc of those problems because airlines have backup airplanes. But in this case where you only have one plane, 1 technical problem can mess up your entire week. We have seen this with the B767 of Icelandair the past few weeks and I'm sure we will continue to see this happen with the B767 in the next couple of weeks.
