Favorite Tri-jet

Post by nwa757 »

I am a big fan of tri-jets, and I was wondering what one was the most popular on this site.

Personally, I like the DC-10 the best. I have some raelly great flights on the DC-10-40s NW used to operate, and in my opinion, it is one of the best looking aircraft out there.

My all time favourite tri-jet is the L1011.

That's a hard one Trevor. But I finally went for the B727.

Number 2 for me is the L-1011.

Ofcourse my vote went to the MD-11 since I really enjoyed all flights I made on it. I love the comfort and it's power, TO is the best you can get ;)

If you ever seen the picture of a tri-engine B747 models you might wonder how it would be to se that plane in service today :?:

I sure would live to fly that!

Personally I have flown the TAP L-1011 during the summer 1994 when I flew to soccer world cup in USA.
Nice plane, so quite and smooth plane in the air!

Never flew on one, but the MD11 is my favorite widebody aircraft (together with A330), and it's at it's best in the Swiss International Airlines scheme... To bad they are going...

How long will the MD11 be around for with major airlines? I assume it will stay a long time for cargo as it's a very popular plane (i.e Fed Ex) but for passenger planes?

I voted for the 727, as it's the only tri-jet I've been on, and it's a very nice one to fly in.

But I have to say I am a mega-fan of the TriStar, the best footage I ever got of a TriStar was the Hewa Bora one in BRU when I got it on video. I am not a big DC10 fan, but I think the MD-11 is great. We were once on the bus to Heathrow terminal three from one of the hotels (Novotel I think) and an American Airlines MD-11 landed right beside us as we passed the runway, it was a great sight and I wish I'd got a photo of it.

Other trijets I like to see are the Soviet-built ones like the Yak, and especially the Tu154, there was a very nice Bulgarian example in MAN last June, it was just maddening that I'd left both my camera and my video camera back at the hotel instead of taking them to the airport that afternoon (we were flying to Dublin the following day).
Sabena and Sobelair - gone but never forgotten.

I voted MD-11,
I like especially the winglets.
I got a plane model of City Bird and one of AA. I like it the most in CB-delivery.

The Tristar.
Really like the sound those planes make and the angle of approaching is also great to see.

Second is the DC10/MD11 series for me.

My favourite Tri-jet is the Tupolev Tu-154 !!! An amazing machine !!!

But since that wasn't in the options, I voted for my second favourite tri-jet, the L-1011 !

I went for the MD-11, since it looks just great when looking in things like fuselage length, the three engines and thos fabulous wings/winglets. I love them every time I see them at AMS. :D

As far as I know, Finnair will continue to operate them at least until 2010

L-1011, for the nice way they designed the exhaust of the middle engine. When compared to the DC10 or the MD11, it is a masterpiece.

And yes, I also like theTu-154.

The list is a bit short!

Where are the Tu-154, the Yak 42 and the hot rod Dassault jets?

My faves are the Trident(rodent) as it is British, the 154 and for relative rarity the Yak 42

Then you should also mention the Yak-40, which I flew once in the 70s between BRU and DUS with a German company whose name I forgot.

Oops! I forgot the Yak-40, but well worth including in the list.

Not tri-jets but what about tri-props? Not too many types built but all are interesting - Ford Trimotor, Ju-52, Trislander, Drover - must be others but can't recall just now.
