What Is Your Best Airline Memory?

Post by Comet »

We have the worst thread, so here is the best airline experience thread.

My best memory is visiting the flightdeck of a Boeing 747-400 on a flight between LHR and LAX, we were flying over mountains at the time, and the view from the flightdeck was unbelieveable! I spent a while sitting in the jumpseat, and the sun was streaming in through the windows, much nicer than the dark economy cabin.

Other ones are - my first flight with Sabena (which was also my first flight in an ARJ), all my other flights with Sabena were great, my first SNBA flight (BHX-BRU) and my VLM flights were all great as well.

I would not have missed the opportunity to fly low over Iceland in a Fokker 27, that is something else - flying low over that scenery and having a big window to get some good photos! It was a pity when the Fokker 50 replaced the 27 because the windows were smaller :(

My first Air France flight was memorable in that I had wanted to fly in an Airbus for years (my flights had always been Boeing, Fokker or MD).

Also I once had a sightseeing flight over Barnsley with my Grandfather in a helicopter, and we flew right over where we lived at the time!
Sabena and Sobelair - gone but never forgotten.

My best flight? Undoubtedly BRU-JFK on a Sabena 747-200 in First (with the lounge in the upper deck). As a frequent flyer on that route, I had been upgraded from Business. Eeverything was close to perfection: meals, drinks, service on board, the upper deck lounge with genuine Cuban cigars and after-dinner drinks, etc.

My best airline memory is first of all not a real airlines memory but rather a "travel experience" with a collegue of mine. I used to work for a tour operator. We were sent to some of our destinations from time to time to check the hotel accomodation. This is a true story of about 8 years ago. Some people from Sobelair might still remember it.
Once there was such a trip to Antalya (Turkey) with charter plane. After arrival, two older ladies went to the local hostess and asked where they could find the bus to hotel "Tenerife Princess". These ladies did not see that they were actually in Turkey!!
I still don't know what went wrong, but I guess they must have been queuing at the wrong check-in desk. The plane was probabely not fully booked and one way or another the staff must have accepted them with wrong tickets.

By the way, the two ladies were offered the choice of returning to Belgium and fly on to Tenerife, or alternatively stay in Turkey. They decided to stay and apparentely they had a great holiday.

thinking....thinking...ah... :) ...The best one was my premium class experience with Garuda. The always happy, beautifull stewardesses. The helpfull stewardess, I believe she called Rachmawati, made my night during the flight enjoyable. She gave me an extra pillow!! Automatically!!
Since this was the first time I've flown "Premium Class" (Business Class), this wonderfull experince, I count this as my best flight. ;)

My best Airline Experience is not too long ago. I flew VBA1036 SXF-NRN on V-Bird and the crew did one great job entertaining the passengers, besides of serving them well.
Things that made this my best airline experience were:

- Generous seat pitch;
- Good service;
- Great cabin crew, trying to entertain the passengers;
- Flight deck visit after landing;

I have three: The first time I went out to Phoenix in 1999. I flew on a Northwest DC-9 to Minneapolis and a Northwest DC-10. This flight sparked my liking for aviation.

AND

A flight I took a year ago on a Northwest 757 from Phoenix to Minneapolis. I talked with a really cute f/a :wink: and she gave me her wings since she knew that I loved aviation.

AND

The last time I flew. I flew on a America West 737-300 to Phoenix. If you read my trip report, you know why it was one of my favorite flights. :wink:

Those are all tied for the best for me.

It's hard to think of the "best" flight experience, but I think my most memorable flight was my first ever one.

I only had other people's comments to go by, so I did not really know what to expect on our first ever flight, which was from Gatwick to Tenerife, with British Airtours, on a Boeing 707.

The whole experience was quite magical, and even the take off (which many people hate) I found exciting!!

The flight itself was uneventful, the conditions were good, no turbulence (well, hardly any, and certainly not enough to put me off!) and the crew were also very good.

Needless to say, I was hooked, as was the 4 year old Comet who was with me.

:lol: :lol: :lol:

My best flights were on Sabena's B747-300 in Business class. BRU-CVG-BRU.

To keep it short, it was a wonderfull plane, had the chance to visit the cockpit and was very comfortable with a lot of space (not like in Y) :D

My best flights were the ones with the KLM MD-11 to Florida and Peru. Very comfortable plane and just a good service with everything on it, friendly good, tasty food, drinks and ice cream. They know how to keep you busy on a 15 hour flight but all has it's price ofcourse.

A flight that really got my attention was in 1998 in Peru when I flew from Lima to Arequipa with Aero Peru on a 727-200. Not that the service was so exclusive (actually very basic) but the plane was in a wonderful condition with full leather seats etc. The lifht was great since it was my first time flying over the Andes, just great! Too bad in 1999 they had an accident (B757, flight 603) and Aero Peru dissapeared.

My very best flight experience was in my honeymoon!!. I got married the 19th of October 1996 and the 20 th of October I was flying with my wife in the cockpit of a 727-200 the route Mexico-Manzanillo. The runway is parallel to the ocean just a few feet apart so you can imagine how you see things in the cockpit. The nicest thing is that my wife was with me enjoying what I enjoy the most.

Very close to that flight was a "ferry flight" ( no people, just the crew) from Mexico to Acapulco. I had a friend that was the captain of a DC9 and in the middle of the flight he stood up and let me hand fly the DC9..can you imagine that!!!!! it was a dream come true. I am a pilot here in Mexico but I fly a Cessna 182, so any jet experience is very nice.

My best flight memory was in 1974 on an Egyptair flight from Cairo to Kinshasa. The plane was a 707 and the grand total of passengers was 3 (THREE). The flight crew graciously moved us to first class. The three of us were tended on by 5 FAs.

Probably a BCal flight in the Mid 80's from LGW to DXB when I was 12 or something. We were late landing in Heathrow from INV so missed our connection onto Gulf Air. This was at 10am or thereabouts and the next available was on BCal from Gatwick 8pm so the handling agent took us by car from Heathrow to Gatwick and gave us a hotel suite for the day and just told us to order what we wanted, when we wanted it. That was me and my two younger brothers - its amazing what you get when yer parents aren;t with you!

They then took us stright to the gate and upgraded the three of us to what I remember them calling Super Executive class on a DC10. Great flight - I remember 'cos it was the only time we ever got kids meals....ie. french fries!!!

Man that airline was good......
