HBA to leave BRU?

Post by SubZero »

Is it true that Hewa Bora is planning on leaving BRU in oktober?
I read it on pp.net.

if this is true we'll loose the only tristar still flying to BRU.

if this is true, it will be a great loss. :( :( ...there are not alot of older birds at BRU, and it is always nice to see such a beautiful old lady at BRU
Lets hope they will stay :lol:

Why should HBA leave Brussels? That is about the only long-haul destination they can fly to. And their weekly flight (doubled in summer) makes good business apparently.

hi,

I read it on pp.net together with this pic.

http://www.planepictures.net/netshow.cgi?232894

it says:
Pitty that such exotic airline is going to stop services to BRU in October.
I don't know if this is true.
but I hope it isn't.

Maybe Karl (ILS25L) himself can tell us where he got the information from?

Paul Jongeneelen (PP.net screener) told me at the 25R on July 4 that Hewa Bora will stop flying to BRU WITH OWN FLIGHTS in October. Instead, they would start a code-share agreement with SNBA and the flights would be operated by SNBA A330's.

I haven't got more information currently.

This news has a good and a bad part....

The good news is that SNBA gets better of it..(I think ;-))

The bad news is that another beautiful aircraft won't be coming again.... :-( It's sad to see the L1011 go....

It would indeed be a big loss for the postters. :(

I see 2 reasons why they would stop flying out of BRU.

The first reason is that they stop flying to BRU with their own equipment and start codesharing with SN. This is then done to open another route in Europe or somewhere else. Don't forget they only have on L-1011 still flying if I remember well.

The second reason is less probable, but remember that HBA is in bad finincial shape. They are allready canibalizing one L-1011 parked in Afrika to get the spare parts for the one still operating. They might get short on spare parts and money soon.

This being said I really hope that Hewa Bora will keep on flying to BRU as long as possible. Or we won't have any Tristar coming to BRU anymore :cry:

I don't think so. For Congo, Brussels has always been the main European destination. They would rather fly their own plane to Brussels and try to codeshare to other less popular European destination (Paris in the first place).

I think that there is more truth behind this than you think, André...

Frederic,

I also heard yesterday that the agreement for the new Brussels Region government took a long time to be sealed bacuse of the aircraft noise issue.

What I read is that the new Brussels Region government will oppose any increase of the night flights above 25,000 per year and strive to have them banned all over Europe (!). They will also try to phase out the older aeroplanes: MD11, A300, ... used mainly by night freight operators.

But these are intentions, not yet decisions!

An MD11 an old aeroplane? How is that possible?
And they haven't even stopped building the A300 yet!

Yeah, I know it's becoming crazy in BRU. Even the B744F's are too noisy for them. :roll:

And by banning the A300's from BRU, you can be garanteed that DHL will leave its BRU-HUB and go to LEipzig or elsewhere in Europe.

Hi Buzz,
An MD11 an old aeroplane? How is that possible?
Indeed, that's just unbelievable !!

I did some research on the MD-11... the prototype flew for the first time on January 10, 1990 (just 14 years ago).

Below I made a list of some regular MD-11 operators at BRU with the average age of their MD-11's :

* Saudi Arabian Cargo:
Built in 1997 => 7 years average

* Eva Air Cargo:
Built between 1995 and 1999 => 7 years average

* World Airways Cargo:
Built between 1994 and 1995 => 9,5 years average

What they call old birds :? In the past, types like the Caravelle, the B732 and the B727 were operated for more than 30 years :!:

Regards, Robin Bamps.

Back to the topic:

From La Libre Belgique today.

An aircraft of Hewa Bora (in which the Kabila family has a part of the capital) has been held in Brussels for several hours on 8 July beause of a used tire and an oil leak.

The Congolese press is fuming: they claim that the Belgian authorities do not like Hewa Bora because its planes are fuller than SN BA's. Therefore, they try to discredit Hewa Bora by all means.

So the problem could be due to technical problem as I mentioned in my first post. :?

Does anyone has more news on this?
Maybe they have finally decided to stay at BRU and not to leave in October, because I think they are doing quite well and they even had some extra flights during the summer.
