Schiphol-Dar Es Salaam wich aircraft?

Post by Capt »

Hello,

I'm flying to Schiphol to Dar Es Salaam on the 13th of July and I'm wondering on which aircraft I will fly. On my intinerary it says a B763 ER is that true.

Kind regards
Capt

Hey capt,

It would maybe be easier for us to find that info if you tell us with which company you will fly (and maybe also the flight number ;) )

On 13 July, there is only one direct flight: KL 571 by B767-300, with a stop in Kilimanjaro.

All i can say is get a bulkhead or exit seat on that thing....it isn't the most comfortable plane in the KLM fleet!!

The 767 is one of the most "be loved" plane ( till the comming of the 777-200 )by cabin and maintance crew in the KLM ( and Martinair ) fleet. The cabincrew love the plane because of it space, and that is striking, because the plane has no cabinrest area like the 744, 772 and md-11. And they always tell me when the cabincrew likes the plane, the passenges does also.

I would agree with "chunk". In the 80es-90es I flew transatlantic a lot, both on B767 and A310 (no A330 yet at that period), and there was a lot more room in the A310 than in the B767.

The cabin and maintenance crew may love the aircraft but for me flying a Martinair B763 it was cramped like hell in economy class (I’m about 1.82 meters). I flew on it AMS-PUJ-HOG and HAV-MBJ-AMS and me my lakes felt like stone after 12 hours of sitting tight. On the way towards Cuba I was lucky to sit on an aisle seat in which I could stretch my lakes a bit, but on our way back to Holland I had a window seat and just slept for some hours because of the seating misery. And if that was not worse enough, when I woke up I wanted to watch the sunrise but the F/A told me to shut the shade. Apart from this and the seats pitch I must say I enjoyed the flight and especially the stops in the Dominican Republic and Jamaica.

But I don’t know how the seat pitch is on KLM's 763's, although I would love to ride one.

The you should have booked a "Big Seat ", i always do that when i am flying Martinair. It cost some 25 euro`s more. Big Seats are seats in economy, with more leg space. ( i am 1.89 cm high )

The best seats are, when I'm looking to the seatmaps, 14A or 14G, you've then a window seat and a bulkhead seat. Check this photo. Much room! Btw, the movies that will be show on the flight are "The Prince and me" and "Starsky and Hutch"

I don't think so, since the B767s will be replaced with the A330-200.

It was a package tour, and I didn't know that this possibility exists. Maybe better luck next time. Can you upgrade at the airport or do you need to book the "Big Seat" before the flight?

We had a guy in our tour group who was about 1.95 meters long which was to short to give him another seat. He should have been 2 meters to get the extra legroom seat. At that moment they didn't tell him something about a upgrade which could be bought for 25 euros. Of course he asked at the airport in Havana, maybe it was to late then. The flight was also fully booked.

But thanks for the tip anyway. :thumbsup2:

When will the A332's arrive then?

I wonder because KLM has repainted the following B763's in their new (gorgeous) color scheme:

- PH-BZK
- PH-BZI

It would be a waste of money if they will be replaced in the near future, but I can't wait to see the new KLM A330's at AMS.

KLM has renewed thier intecontinental WBC seats on the B747, MD11 and B767 (a different version), but the new interc. econemy class seats are only available on the B777s and B747s (without ptv). The new eco seats are not placed on the B767 and MD11 due to savings.

I'm not sure if all the B767s will be replaced with the A330. But the new A330-200 will be equiped with (the same as the B777) ptv's in both classes, a totally interactive AVOD system and of course new seats. ;)

all 767 will be replaced by the a330. The MD-11 will be flying for 5 - 8 more years. When i read it correctly, Martinair will lease 3 - 4 replaced klm 767. ( I heard that Kenya airlines and East African Safari are also interested in lease / buy the replaced klm 767, East African Safari currently leasing one 767 from Martinair)

I hope the seats of the B767 will be better by Martinair and that KLM will improve their econemy class in the MD11, because they look horrible!!

I have to agree - most of the economy seats on the 767 are pretty uncomfortable if you are over 6 ft tall (sorry I know that is 1.8 m or something) and I am 6ft 2in. I suspect the crew know this as well as last time I was on one the purser came up to me and asked me if I wanted to move to a bulkhead seat. Then agian maybe the platinum fd card helped as well!

The other thing si the 747 seats...very odd.....I came back from Houston early June and all the seats in the economy section (except the front mini cabin) were all old (like 767) style. I thought they would have finished that work by now? Bizarre decision not to put PTV's in the new ones as well - especially given the rest of the new fleet will have em...still I'll fly on them until they chance the points system on fd!

It's sad that they didn't put PTV's in the B747 econemy. class. For me, I don't care so much, but I think it's good for the interest of KLM. I've read many experieces about KLM, where people say: "Service of KLM is good, only sad they don't offer PTV's". I think flying without a ptv in these years is for the most passengers unbelieveable since almost every intercontinental, major carrier has them. ;)
