Hello everybody,

Just read this article on the DSML mailinglist :

Polar Air Cargo moves European Hub

Polar Air Cargo plans in the fourth quarte of 2004 to move its European hub from Liege to Amsterdam! ALL flights from Liege will move.

Release says they currently fly three weely flights from AMS; but, new schedule:

-4 x per week to "New York"
-2 x week to Chicago
-2 x week to Atlanta
-6 x week to "Seoul and Taipei" (unclear if same flight or two flights)
-2 x week to "Dubai, Bombay and Madras" (also unclear)

There will also be Polar flights linking Amstedam to Gothenburg and Prestwick.

So take your chance next Tuesday to catch one in approach... good weather is announced and PO414 is scheduled to arrive at Liege @ 09:30LT from Atlanta => daylight approach

What may have been the reasons that Polar foresees a better future for them at AMS rather than at LGG?

What are the comments in the Wallonian Community on this economically disappointing news?
I just checked today's Le Soir and LLB online, however they do not bring up the subject (yet).

I thought there was some kind of operational connection between Polar Air Cargo and TNT.
Will Polar's move out of LGG have an impact on TNT's activities at LGG?

The success story of LGG during recent years has been an illustration of an alleged new and revitalised Wallonia. LGG has set a remarkable growth record during these last few years. The loss of Polar will probably slow down that growth considerably, bring that growth to a halt or even create a major set back in traffic. Hopefully the airport will be able to keep it's momentum and attract other new traffic.

When Belgian airports loose traffic then somehow it often seems to be in favor of a Dutch airport! LGG is not loosing traffic to HHN, FRA, LUX or CDG... but to AMS again! I fear the day when SQC might come up with a similar statement as just been made by Polar.
