Who on Luchtzak is actually a "reggie" spotter

Post by website-info »

Guys and Girls,

I am wondering, who on this list is actually a "reggie" spotter ? by that I mean, just collecting the regs, not necessary to have a picture of it, to put it in the book. I know there are lots of photographers on here, but only a few "number crunchers", lets see a show of hands,

I'm a reggie spotter!

Not of bizz jets and military aircraft, only civil aviation.

When did I start... already for quite some time, I wanted to know which aircraft I had already seen and which one not, but I didn't really know how to start it. Untill I got an email of luchtzak.be member qnnm, this was February 2002. We started mailing and mailing, and a few months later (he is a big regspotter with a huge knowledge), I started. This was 5 September 2002, on my first real spotting trip to LHR.

This LHR trip was followed with a BRU-LHR-EDI-MAN-EDI-DUB-SNN-DUB-EDI-LHR-BRU trip in 2003, and this summer I'm going to MAN for 2 days (leaving within 2 weeks), 2 days FRA (leaving next week with Avro and L1011) and 4 days BRU-MXP-MAD-PMI-BCN-MAD-FCO-BRU (leaving within 3 weeks, together with Apuneger).

I try to visit BRU at least once a month (come by train from Gent), and hope to go at least one time to AMS/CDG/DUS this summer.

I am a reggie spotter only, I have no interest in photography just crunching the numbers. I spot civil airliners and jet biz (not props),military only if they are biz or airliner types. I started in 1977 at EGNT (My home town) when a PAA B742 came in with the "Friendship Force " student exchange programme.
I am ashamed to say that I gave up for about 10 years throughout my ATC training and as I started a family.
I began again just before I moved to Belgium in 1999 and travel as much a small family will allow, normaly one US visit and a couple of Euro trips a year.
I don't know why I do it I guess I must be mad!!!
Best Regards
Elnombre
PS I bagged Single Aisle Airbus Number 1000 this morning OE-LDB A319 AUA. A red letter day

i started last year with spotting. First i only took the photo's, but then i realized that i never knew if i had seen a particular plane already or not, so i got more and more interested in regs also.
But right now i'm trying to find a good balance between pics and regs (which is very hard!). The first time i wrote down the regs was on my first spotting trip to EHAM, last March.

I believe that I count as a reggie spotter having been writing down the "numbers" since May 1964 (can't remember the exact date having lost the papers!) when I first went to Ringway (Manchester) with a friend who must take some of the blame for my obsession.

I have never actually stopped spotting over the years but some years have been less productive due to work commitments, getting married and having kids but since coming to Belgium I am re-born, living very close to BRU allows me to spot most days. This year has been good to me and to date (yesterday included) I have logged just over 1000 new reggies. I am a spotter who notes pretty much everything from ULM's to mil heavies and collect both frames and scrapes. So far this year I have visited 35 airfields, both large and small, and hope to tick off a few more later in the summer. Highlights so far include the European Champions League final thrash around Germany, Heathrow (1st visit for 4 years) and yesterday's visit to Paris where I "made" over 140.

My family are not enthusiasts but are very tolerant (usually) and often come with me on my travels as we get to go to some interesting parts of the world.

ps congrats on the 1000, Mr E - maybe I should do a count!

When I was only 12 years old I wrote down all de egi's I saw, mostly in Brussels, some in Dublin and Cork, Ireland. I couldn't afford taking pictures then. I did this untill the age of 16. Then I wasn't much at home anymore because of school, so I skipped the regi spotting a few years.
Now since a few months I take pictures, but I'm not hunting for regi's anymore, unless it are aircraft from a special fleets. I'm more a livery hunter now.

I'm a "reggie spotter"as you will know Eurocontrol. Started about 6 months ago and still going strong. Shame I missed out on Paris would have boosted the Air France count for me!

My dad took me to Manchester Ringway, in 1974.
I started spotting in earnest when I was 14, when I would cycle to Ringway, from home - about a 2 hour ride, to watch the Comet 4’s of Dan Air amongst others.
Then I joined a club, and took several trips, to Heathrow and Gatwick, but my highlight was a trip to the Paris Air Show, via several UK airfields, and many small fields in France, as well as CDG, Le Bourget, Orly.

Spotting wore out on me as I got older, and I lost interest copying the 1000’s of numbers from the previous years Civil Aircraft Markings, and Airline Production Lists to the latest years.
I then did a couple of years of heavy travelling with my job, but my work colleagues could not understand my fascination with Aircraft numbers, so I just noted the ‘specials’, such as Air Force 1.

I moved to Brussels 18 months ago, and have a birds eye view from our offices, over the airport, including the take off route of 25R.
It has rekindled my love of aircraft, and thanks to this site, I have started to capture numbers again.

Thankfully many many of the aircraft I saw in my teenager days, have long since been scrapped, so I don’t have many to copy over…. I am hoping someone has developed a database… ????

I 'm also a 'number cruncher'. My very early logs date from 1968 or so; the real clearly dated and regular logs started in 1972.
I just go for the larger civils. Very few quality pictures.
As for the rest, I feel quiet normal.

Well, I don't know if you can count me in, but I want to have a picture of every aircraft. This means that it is very important that the registration is visible on at least one of the shots of an aircraft ...
Some people are satisfied with for example 1 B737-300, 1 B737-400, 1 B737-500 of a certain company, but what I want is a pic of every single aircraft in the entire fleetr of that company ...

Does this mean I am a reg-spotter to ? Since regs are important to me too ...

Greetz,

You lucky b*gger!!!!!!!!! I love spotting at BRU, some of the best spotting and video I have ever got has been at 25L last year!

Being in Scarborough means I cannot spot ( ) so when I do get near an airport, I tend to take more photos and videos than numbers, though if I can make out the number from zooming in on video or enlarging a photo, then I will note it, but it is not my priority. I always make the effort to note the regs of any aircraft I travel on though.

Spotting is a very rare hobby for me, but this year I am lucky - one day in Birmingham so far, one day in Manchester so far, a day in Manchester in September, Brussels 25L on 12th September and Birmingham again in November - that is my ration for the year!

I'm a reg spotter and a picture spotter.

Sometimes it's hard to do both, but usually there is no problem at all.

Let's hope someday I'll have logged ALL planes on the world

So I assume from the above that out of 4500+ members ther are only 12 or so of us who collect registrations on here - SHOULD MAKE LIFE EASIER TO ORGANISE A BBQ THIS SUMMER THEN :-)

It would be very interesting to know how many of those 4500+ members can be considered as 'active' members...

204 have posted at least 10 messages in the forum, and 557 (i.e. 12%) have posted at least one message in their 'activity'.

Please note that there are also a lot of people who registered to download some movies in the downloads-area. And that there are also members who registered only to follow the discussions going on in the forums and not 'actively' participating...

Should we delete all the members that are not active? I don't know....

Maybe it would be unfair to delete inactive members. After all, if these members suddenly decided they wanted to post a comment and found that they had been deleted.

How can you really say that someone will definitely never post anything?

guys i dont remember saying that inactive members should be deleted. I was just curious.

Can someone tell me how much users post at least 1 message a day, 1 a week, and 1 a month?
It all depends on how you define 'active'... :)

But i do think that the numbers sn26567 posted are something totally different then 4500+
