B777 Tailhook?

Post by Capt »

Hi,

I saw somwhere that the Boeing 777 would have a tailhook in the centre of the fuselage.

Does anybody know what it's used for?

Kind regards

The thing you probably saw, was an emergency power generator. Normally, when the eingines are working, they are the ones that provide electricity to for instance the cockpit. If both engines would stop on the 777, this generator would be lowered from the plane's belly. It's very small and can only supply enough power to let the main air-systems work (like airspeed, altitude and direction indication).

Could that be what you have seen ? I know 1 thing for sure, there is absolutelly no 777 with an arrestor-hook.

I think you mean the "thing" that prevents the fuselage from hitting the RWY when a tailstrike happens. If the crew pulls up to steeply on the runway.

Well guys it's in flight simulator I saw that. I'll try to post a printscreen if I know how to do that but I think it's most likely the emergency power generator.

That'll be great, because I don't know what you are referring to ?
