A beautiful destination. Lots of culture, amazing area (Gdansk, Sopot, Gdynia) the Baltic Sea and delicious food.
Was declared a "Free City" at the 1919 Versailles Treaty after WW1 in order to allow Poland access to the sea.
Was annexed by Germany in 1939 and renamed Danzig; then became part of Poland since 1945, regaining its former name of Gdansk.
Later known for its important shipyards where the Solidarnocs union was founded. That union was eventually headed by Lech Walesa who, in 1990, became President of Poland.

You mix here some things.
The Polish access to sea was Gdynia, which developed consequently into a mid size city.
Gdansk/ Danzig was always a " German" city, but it's population changed due to expulsion after WW2.
Similarly, you can't say that Kaliningrad has a Russian history just because it was totally bombed in the war and now populated with ethnic Russians.
But the region itself is worth a trip, you have nice sandy beaches, the Templers Castle of Marienburg nearby and the summer feels like in Scandinavia.

According to our information, there will be five weekly flights (not on Tuesdays and Thursdays), and these will be operated with a Boeing 787-8 from Ethiopian Airlines. The new route would depart Kinshasa in the evening (22:00) and arrive in Brussels in the morning (07:00). At 10:00, the Dreamliner will depart again for Kinshasa, arriving there at 17:05"

Even more surprising is how it is that Lubumbashi is not already a destination for Brussels Airlines, given that two Gulf carriers are now going there?

Because the market was shrinking over the past weeks, no?. Many people who went there for holiday, all these influencers ( ) ... will not go there now.
I am also curious how the other flights are doing: Ethiad, the one flight from Emirates, ...

People found other ways, and gateways, to travel. They bypass Dubai now. Thai, Singapore Airlines, Cathay are doing very well.
Lufthansa starts also with layover flights. From a problem, a new solution came out.

As for Lufthansa, they will suspend Frankfurt and Munich between June and October. SN will take over Munich but Frankfurt will then lose 7 weekly frequencies.

Also SAS reduced their number of European flights bcs the ME war and fuel prices. To BRU, Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm are affected

On may 4th UA972 ORD-BRU got diverted to EWR due a long tarmac delay and crew out of duty time. The flight did not continue to BRU, but pax got rebooked and reaccommodated on a B757 next day to BRU. The B757 left yesterday as ferry back to EWR at 07h00 GMT.
