Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

OO-SSF is in MAD for maintenance, is this a last check prior return to lessor?
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Dear all,
I see that Austrian will make use of two E195 planes of Air Dolomiti. Air Dolomiti will get many of those from OS.
Could SN not make use of some by EN operated birds for thinner routes (less capacity needed).
I think about going back to Bristol, Torino, Nurnberg, Bremen ...
What do you think.

I think Air Baltic is doing those routes, no?DannyVDB wrote: 12 Mar 2026, 06:44 Dear all,

Anyway, I prefer the A220 over the E195 and the hard product of Air Baltic is, frankly speaking, amazing. I flew Air dolomiti once and it was horrible (seats were also really uncomfortable) I hope they stick to Air Baltic to be honest
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
None of the mentioned routes are now served by SN.
Also, if I'm not mistaking, the A220 of Air Baltic has more seats than the A319 of SN.
A smaller plane for thinner routes would be nice.

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Yes, indeed, the A220 is a nice plane to fly in, quite acceptable legroom, large windows and 2-3 seating reduces the "risk" of having a middle seat. Also moving maps as entertainment.Matt wrote: 12 Mar 2026, 08:49

However, avoid the exit row, as the window there is noticeably smaller than the other windows...
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
The legroom or seat pitch is determined by the airline not the manufacturer. I also prefer the A220 aircraft compared to the Embraer, but Embraer is quiet acceptable. However, Air Dolomiti is notorious for not its delays or not flying on time. The smaller A220 would be a nice addition to SN's fleet imho

Given the general trends presented during the Capital Markets Day last September, i doubt.DannyVDB wrote: 12 Mar 2026, 06:44 Dear all,

Overall the group tries to optimize it's feeder netowrk, means reducing cost there. If some routes have no sufficient O&D demand they won't be kept and transfers would be optimized between the hubs towards larger aircraft with lower CASM.
Furthermore, the way forward is to reduce complexity of subfleets. As of today, the prediction for Brussels is 319+320 and moving towards all A320 with punctually 150 seater wetleases.
In this context, Air Baltic delivered last year a positive EBITDA but a negative bottom line, thus additional cash and likely equity for a group such as Lufthansa may be welcome.
I do not see the E95 being available at all - Lufthansa Cityline will be shut down next year thus all 23 CRJ900 are exiting the fleet, in a next step in 2028 the 9xE190 Dolomiti is operating today are exiting the fleet thus most of the incoming capacity from Austrian (13 aircraft, as 4 shall be sold) would be needed there.

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
What you see nowadays is that airlines open routes rather quickly with 4x/week frequency in order to avoid a 2-day gap between flights. I think on a market as large as India, particularly to BOM or DEL, it would make sense as well. There sure will be some connection potential depending when during the day would those flights be scheduled.DannyVDB wrote: 09 Mar 2026, 10:23 Would be indeed a nice addition, but I guess it would be limited to 3 flights/w or so. If more, then expansion in Africa will be limited, especially since it was about new destinations, more frequencies and de-triangulation, no?

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
India is heavily regulated, but Air India is getting closer to a JV with LH. Thus, a good chance for Brussels to expand, as most of the rights in other home markets are already fully utilized.

According to the Capital Markets Day presentation, the first aircraft should fly for Brussels in 2030, thus a decision on the product family is expected.
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Beside the type of aircraft, 787, A350 or A330neo (yes he is back in the game), what would be interesting is how many frame will be ordered, hopefully 15

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Curious why the 339 is back in the game?
Short term availability? (5 frames in Brasil appearantly in the market).
Swap from ITA scenario, as they want to grow via A359?

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Other things that may also have played a role: the 339 is cheaper and availability of delivery slots is better vis-a-vis the A350. Plus, performance wise the 339 and 789 are a very close match. But on the other hand I still expect the 789 for SN. We will see very seen.
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
I'm betting on the A330-900 for all the reasons you gave. I really think this plane is perfect for Brussels Airlines if the noise problem is resolved.OO-PDM wrote: 21 Mar 2026, 11:57 Other things that may also have played a role: the 339 is cheaper and availability of delivery slots is better vis-a-vis the A350. It's clear that the A350 doesn't fit the profile at all.
For a passenger like me who flies long distances in economy, the 787 is obviously a nightmare
There is also another important factor: the A330-900 turns faster and does fly over a smaller part of Brussels, whereas the 787, after takeoff, flies over a large part of the city.
Hasta la victoria siempre.
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
You are right on this one: the 787 was designed for a 2-4-2 seating, but most airlines (with the notable exception of Japan Airlines on international flights) changed it to a dense, uncomfortable 3-3-3 configuration. Economy passengers are considered cattle.lumumba wrote: 21 Mar 2026, 16:00 For a passenger like me who flies long distances in economy, the 787 is obviously a nightmare.
