Back from the bush
Back from the bush
Hi everyone.
I am back in Belgium (the land of my roots) after 7 years of flying in africa.I was flying at international airport and in the bush.I was based in Libreville (Gabon);Kinshasa (DRC); Mwanza and Arusha (Tanzanie).Actually i am going up and down to UK to convert my licence in JAR licence (ATPL) and looking for a position in a cockpit in Europe. I am ready to provide information about flying in Africa and tips for people who would like to go there to live an extaordinary experience.Furthermore i'll be happy to gather with few people around a beer or two to look at few pictures and tell stories. So i hope to etend my aviation familly with you guys.
Cheers

Welcome and make sure to learn the rules you will need to have here for flying.
Have some experience with one pilot I know and he flies like a sport flyer and really doesn't have a clue about the rules and regulations he needs to fly in Europe
But hey, after flying a long time in Namibia I can understand he didn't have to look at anything actually
Good luck with your job search!
Greetz,
Erwin

Killerwhales,
I was flying alot of different kind from all cessna like C206;C210;C402;C414;C404;C208B.And others small piston airplane.I have also flown, Canadairecl44 an Hawker Siddeley HS748. And my basic licence is a FAA CPL actually converting and I'll get a full ATPL.
A318,
Thanks for you advise but in my case i've done all the 14 exams for the conversion included JAR air law.You friend who was flying in Namibia did'nt no any rules i guess. In africa like anywhere else we following ICAO regulation with some local difference, like the procedure for unmaned field and wild life respect.
744 rules,
It will be a great pleasure to meet any of you guys.
Cheers

For who did you fly those little planes then? Private, or what kind of companies, ...?

The light plane i have flown they were for charter company.
We use them for specific clients like the forest industry; Goldmining; Oil industry; and luxury safari. Most of the flight are conducted in the bush due of the lake of road or the bad condition of those one. We were taking people in and out of the bush and also supply them with food and were doing also urgent spare part. Some industry like gold mining or oil production cannot afford stop the production for more than few hours.
We did also aerial survey for the wild life and gold mine exploration.Search and rescue as well for lost boat and anti poaching. And rarely Medivac.
That was roughly the type of flight on light aircraft.

Yes I am from NZ. As you say there is a lot of interesting flying to be done over here, anything from over water to over mountains & all in a very short flying distance.jpcl44 wrote:Hi Big Julie;
