What is certain in this whole story is that the United States of America has the intelligence not to put its airlines in unequal competition.longwings wrote: 07 Sep 2025, 06:50The US and China recently renegotiated approved routes between the two countries, and no route overflying Russia was included.lumumba wrote: 04 Sep 2025, 12:04 This is not correct, flights from the European Union to China can fly over Russia, flights from the United States to China cannot fly over Russia.
On the other hand, Emirates, Qatar, Air India, Uzbekistan Airways, are among the several airlines flying over Russia daily on the way to/from the USA.
The USA has banned US-registered carriers from operating in Russian airspace, that's it.lumumba wrote: 04 Sep 2025, 09:25 Yep correct the United States has the balls to ban flying over Russia to the United States, but that's not the case for weak Europeans.

US airlines are complaining about unfair competition from Chinese airlines, Russia or not Russia. It's the case since covid when both China and USA have started to put restriction about the number of flights to slow down the spread of covid 19lumumba wrote: 07 Sep 2025, 11:31What is certain in this whole story is that the United States of America has the intelligence not to put its airlines in unequal competition.longwings wrote: 07 Sep 2025, 06:50The US and China recently renegotiated approved routes between the two countries, and no route overflying Russia was included.lumumba wrote: 04 Sep 2025, 12:04 This is not correct, flights from the European Union to China can fly over Russia, flights from the United States to China cannot fly over Russia.

The problem of American and Chinese airlines – the beginning of the conflict
U.S. airlines lobby for restricting Chinese carriers https://www.travelweekly.com/Travel-New ... e-carriersOn the 31st of January, because of the epidemiological situation linked to the spread of the COVID-19, the US government banned the entry of the majority of non-US passengers. They had been on Chinese territory in the last 14 days. The ban did not impose any restrictions on flights from China, but given the residual demand for travel between countries, most US airlines decided to suspend flights to China.
A direct allegation of the recent conflict between the United States and China, this time concerning civil aviation, was the failure of the Chinese Civil Aviation Authority (CAAC) to allow Delta Air Lines and United Airlines to resume flights to China. Even though, at the same time, Chinese airlines could operate in the United States. https://www.shiphub.co/the-problem-of-a ... -airlines/

Obviously, we know about the conflict, but for the Europeans, it's the same thing plus the advantage that they can fly over China, so this double punishment.rwandan-flyer wrote: 07 Sep 2025, 12:22US airlines are complaining about unfair competition from Chinese airlines, Russia or not Russia. "Its airlines" feel differently when they have to avoid Russian airspace while Emirates, Qatar, or Air India do not.lumumba wrote: 07 Sep 2025, 11:31What is certain in this whole story is that the United States of America has the intelligence not to put its airlines in unequal competition.

I took this flight three times more in the past few weeks. Premium Economy and Economy were above 95% full on all three flights, Business consistently above 80% and completely full on the last flight. Of course this doesnt say anything about yields, but I find it quite impressive.BRU_AV_123 wrote: 12 Aug 2025, 09:14Took the flight for the first time, excellent service, full in Economy, 90% in Premium Economy and more or less 50-60% in Business.Atlantis wrote: 27 Jul 2025, 10:56 Quick reminder, as from next week Friday, 1st Aug, Cathay will start up flights to BRU with the A350
Considering it was a HKG to BRU flight while most of the passengers seem to be BRU based and it is less than one week since the first flight, it seems like a great start (load factor wise at least).
Majority of the transfer passengers seem to be bound for Tokyo, Osaka and Taipei (which makes sense as this is now by far the fastest option from BRU).
Curious about the numbers over the slower winter months and whether Thai or Singapore Airlines is suffering from Cathay’s entry into the market. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Cathay increasing frequency next year.

So far, frequency has been reduced to 3 weekly next summer...BRU_AV_123 wrote: 08 Sep 2025, 12:35I took this flight three times more in the past few weeks.
