Apologies if the question has already been asked and answered earlier. Are the factory new A320neo's equipped with larger hand-luggage bins which can accommodate cabin hand-luggage vertically ? Thx
Affirm.

Adding to this, I have heard that UA would maybe pause their expansion too in 2026. This mainly bcs of the delay of new aircraft. As from 2027 it would be full throttle.

Correct, expansion is on pause, especially across TATL as first delivery of an A321XLR has been delayed from late 2024 to early 2026.
Across all new orders, this year's deliveries will be short approximately 20 aircraft by the end of the year.

Are they planning to send XLR's into BRU or use them to free up widebodies which can then be used on a.o. BRU?

Can we stick to the topic please?
This is a topic about Brussels' Airlines fleet renewal, I don't see the link with the UA fleet planning....
Thanks.

Djeez, lighten up, darling...

I was merely asking a question to the two people before me about future plans of what probably is SN's most important partner and which has quite the influence in whatever SN is going to do in the future.

Exactly, I agree with you Conti764. The pause in the expansion of UA has an influence too on SN and BRU.

The A21N is replacing the B752 with only ~10 aircraft earmarked for expansion. New B789s will drive most of the international expansion for the next five years.

And yes, older aircraft will leave the fleet.

EAF google sites also mentiones 3 A321's and 5 extra A320 neos

I guess that's a mistake tough

Edit: the 5 "extra" neos and A321's dissapeared again

Same procedure as always. Approx 1,5-2 years in advance, the aircraft from the group order are allocated.
A logical move for the next wave for SN, as Eurowings would start getting the B737.
Likely 4x A319 would be out.

Great news!

Anybody knows if Lufthansa plans to buy more A320/A321neo's in the short term? As far as I can see, the entire group (without ITA) still has 34 A320neo's and 20 a321neo's on order but if they want to take out the old A320's (especially at LH and LX) and replace A319's with A320's, that won't be enough.

4 new A320neo's will replace older aircraft and the fifth is pure expansion

Let's stick a little bit to the facts:

As of today, there are only 12xA320 and 9XA321 NEO deliveries not allocated.

As orders and options in this segment, there are 40 B737 ordered plus 60 options and 40 options for A320NEO fam.

Thus likely we may see excise of options first, especially as for several airlines the needs can be filled out of the existing fleet.

If we consider 30y as a typical retirement age for the A320 and 321 and take eg 2032 as a benchmark to consider and estimate that all A319 will be gone till than, one can see the gap:

- LH 23xA319 (likely A223 at City as replacement), 3XA320, 22XA321 -likely options would be used for that
- LH cityline and city - various A319 -A223 as replacement
- Swiss - no need, all replacement planned long time ago, but deliveries postponed due to covid
- Edelweiss - 5-7 A320 needed
- Austrian 13xA320 and 3xA321 needed
- Eurowings - 25+6 xA319 and 5-6 Ax320 replacement needed, but Boeings already starting deliveries 2027

If Eurowings would go all Boeing, there are 9xA320 and 5xA321 with similar engines which could be reallocated to SN. As well there are 23 end of the tail A320CEOs there which could be a very interesting option for several brands- eg Discover or even Brussels, if an optimisation or punctual growth needs may occur.

However, i would expect for sure a new deal with deliveries starting in the early 2030s, if no other options eg via bankrupcies etc would offer additional opportunities in the market.

Do you have a crystal ball?
Not 24 hours after your post, Spirit Airlines files for bankruptcy (twice within a year!), and AerCap issues notice the filing is a contractual default terminating upcoming lease agreements.

30some A320NEOs and A321NEOs for delivery in 2027-2028 could be back on the market.... after Spirit's future lawsuit against AerCap is resolved (to try and skip a $2m termination fee per aircraft Spirit doesn't want to pay of course).

Allow me to correct this.

Spirit has filed for Chapter 11 which is Protection against (immediate) bankrupcy.

Under Chapter11 they can continue operating with the goal of restructuring, while keeping the creditors at bay (for a limited time).
Agreed that the future is not what it used to be for them.
