Entry of Air China on the Belgian market.

Craey how many flight between Belgium and China we'll have...
If everything goes right :
- Beijing : 14x weekly
- Shanghai : 11x weekly
- Chengdu : 5x weekly
- Chongqing : 4x weekly
- Shenzhen : 3x weekly
(+ Hong Kong : 4x weekly)

This means 41x weekly flight, instead of currently 18.

Exactly. We had already Air China since last year. But it was postponed 3 times. Air China was even not expected before the end of this year. Mostly it is CAAC who is making a mess.

Be carefull with Juneyao and Hainan. They are competitors on the Shanghai route. At the beginning of this year, Hainan announced the same, daily flight, bcs they wanted to kick out Juneyao from this route. Now we see Juneyao doing the same.

Hainan was rumored too on Chongqing but it was later cancelled.

This all from a very good source. It would be nice of course, but if you could have one from the list it would be good.

In general I think we already have a lot of flights to China, especially with Hong Kong soon again as well.
I would rather see NH to daily again.
Or having an Indian destination. This is a necessity in my opinion.
Also a connection somewhere in South America would be nice.

How likely is it that they will get permission? If they made the request, is it only a formality to get permission? Seems quite soon to me to start flights in september if no announcement has been made yet.

Normally for a new long haul, it's announced 1 year in advance. That's needed to start up bookings, slot requests etc.
Also politics is involved, it needs to get permission also from the Belgian government.

September already is too fast.

Indeed, India is more crucial and to have back the daily Tokyo

Thanks for the update. Is this also included maintenance of some long haul planes? As certain days has only 8 or 9 flights while 11 planes are in the fleet. It's average 2 to 3 planes out.

I think that is foreseen indeed: some maintenance and some repainting (3 planes) ... taking (at least) 1 month and 14 days respectively ... (the winter schedule is 'only' 5 months).

In practice they stop the 5 flights/w to Washington in Winter, and then maybe a few African flights.

Currently they have a similar scheme but with 2 days 9 flights and 5 days 10 flights, including 5flights/w to Washington ... (until the end of the summer period).

In fact, I saw that also other airlines from the LHG are 'under-using' their long haul planes. Better than having to cancel because of tight planning (besides the 'big' maintenance such as C and D-checks they also have regular smaller maintenance / checking) ...

Cheers,
D

February is the period where the demand is low. Many airlines suspend routes between USA and Europe. It's the case at Paris Cdg, where for example AF reduces flights on some destinations such as Detroit which is served daily in summer, but only 3 times a week during the weakest period.

American Airlines suspends also its Chicago Paris Cdg route duing this period

Exactly the same as last winter at the same period, so no there is no « downgrade »

Indigo will lease 5 more 787 and will expand its destinations soon, first will be LHR, ;ATH and CPH will follow soon...Unfortunately no chances for BRU because this Indian airline is lead by a Dutchman(Elbers) who of course is focussing on AMS with daily flights later this year (now 3X per week)...

Or maybe the size of the Indian community in Belgium and the Netherlands points to AMS as being a better choice rather than the CEO's citizenship?

Dont forget , KLM and INDIGO will start codesharing on 30 routes troughout europe , including BRU
BRU would never have been strategic connection point for this partnership.

PLAY is downsizing further with 6 more destinations axed for Winter 2025-2026. Also Brussels is not available anymore.
