Brussels Airport news: shareholders, environmental permit, routes, ...
I create this new topic regarding the recent sale of 39% of the shares to the Flemish government.
Now is also announced that Macquarie bought the shares of the Ontario Teachers Pension Funds in Bristol, Birmingham and London City.
There is a huge difference with the Flemish government who only said to secure an economic important industry and looking forward to the 2028 dividend.
Macquarie communicated completely different and is working on a long term vision. Macquarie is committed to supporting the airports over the long term to expand their route networks, further enhance passenger experience and work closely with management teams and stakeholders to implement the airports’ sustainability strategies.
Very pity that we don't have that vision. Public interest is the worst you can have.

Re: Brussels Airport: new shareholders, news
Given the recent sale of 39% of shares to the Flemish government, which has emphasized securing an economically important industry and looking forward to the 2028 dividend, how do you perceive the contrast with Macquarie's approach? Macquarie has articulated a long-term vision focused on expanding route networks, enhancing passenger experience, and implementing sustainability strategies at the airports in Bristol, Birmingham, and London City.

What you wrote here is exactly what I wrote in the other post.jonathanhans wrote: 11 Jul 2025, 09:32 Given the recent sale of 39% of shares to the Flemish government, which has emphasized securing an economically important industry and looking forward to the 2028 dividend, how do you perceive the contrast with Macquarie's approach? Flanders is hoping for a dividend but it will not be much for them bcs they need to pay also interest on this almost 3 billion euro which they invest. This dividend will be not 100% for them. But yeah, politicians are not the smartest ones.
On the other side, they are regulator and investor at the same time. You need a very devided structure for this. It's rather unseen.
Re: Brussels Airport: new shareholders, news
I read an article in the press hinting at a (future) name change for Brussels Airport, now that Flanders is the majority shareholder.
Zaventem 2035 ?

Re: Brussels Airport: new shareholders, news
Nothing heard about it yet, but they need to be careful with this. Brussels is worldwide know. If they would like to change it in e.g. Flanders International Airport, nobody would know where they landBoavida wrote: 15 Jul 2025, 08:09 I read an article in the press hinting at a (future) name change for Brussels Airport, now that Flanders is the majority shareholder.

"Flanders International Airport" is already the commercial name of EBKT/KJK.

They will never leave 'Brussels' out of it.Boavida wrote: 15 Jul 2025, 08:09 I read an article in the press hinting at a (future) name change for Brussels Airport, now that Flanders is the majority shareholder.

Re: Brussels Airport: new shareholders, news
Agreed.
Most airports have a 'name' like:
- Amsterdam Schiphol
- Paris Charles de Gaulle
- London Heathrow
- ...
Brussels could become... Brussels Flanders (and Charleroi Brussels Wallonia)

Another option is Brussels Antwerp. There has been a lot of (political) talk about closing down Deurne Airport. As a 'compromise', Zaventem could become the airport of Brussels and Antwerp. In this regard, the new name could reflect this.

Re: Brussels Airport: new shareholders, news
Keep it simple. Why to mix city names in one name for an airport? It will look like a clown. Imagine the Canadian and American or Asian partners saying that they fill fly to Brussels Antwerp airport. Ugly I can say and not professional.
But yeah, from politicians you can expect everything

Re: Brussels Airport: new shareholders, news
just call it 'Brussels Capital' , capital of Belgium and of Europe
Re: Brussels Airport: new shareholders, news
If they really would focus more on the name of the airport instead of a plan with more routes, it will confirm my doubts together with the majority of the people.
Macquarie with the acquisition of their latest airports they presented a long term plan with routes.
Flanders..... 0

There are more airports worldwide that mix to cities, only to name a few:Atlantis wrote: 15 Jul 2025, 15:56 Keep it simple. Why to mix city names in one name for an airport? Atlantis,
you have created this topic 2 weeks ago.
You have made 5 posts full of assumptions and critisism based on what?
Well done! You managed to make a laugh of your own topic.

Re: Brussels Airport: new shareholders, news
Bcs it's a valid topic about the change of the shareholders. What is wrong with creating one and to give the feedback what a lot of people thinking at the airport and other businesses.OO-JFP wrote: 15 Jul 2025, 20:09 Atlantis,

Re: Brussels Airport: new shareholders, news
Atlantis,
I was a fan of your posts in other topics but now you've made a mess of it.
Other businesses: like Belgian banks that have been acquired by foreign banks and the dividends that follow the same route?
Not to mention Engie and the billions of euro's that leave this country every year.
About Macquarie: long term vision, how long is long term? And they are doing it for the money too if I'm not mistaken
You make it sound as if every improvement and every new route is thanks to Macquarie.
I wouldn't be surprised if the rumour for a new name for the airport originates from a Francophone newspaper.
I don't believe this, there are more important things to do in this country.
To end: I don't work in your business so I'm not going to further argue about it.

The expectations re. Macquarie is based on what they did the last time they became a major shareholder and in contrast to when the federal government did before them (not much).
The Flemish governemt now only talks about dividents.
BRU: environmental permit annulled
The council for permit disputes decided to annul the environmental permit for BRU.
It was SN, BRU and a few other organizations who placed 21 complaints against the permit.
The council agreed with SN bcs their complaint was that they cannot grow with the limited number of flights per year and the noise restrictions. SN would have been an issue with that bcs as from next year more strict rules regarding noise. The A330 would have an issue with the early landings.
The council also agreed with BRU and annulled for BRU the 10 million Euro they had to pay each year to Infrabel.
The airport can function with this annulled permit till 2029. That's the time also where SN will decide about the new long haul plane.
