I have more. Letter of Intention has been signed between TUI and Euroairlines to centralise operations in Brussels. BRU-CDG-PUJ starting from 4 October, BRU-CUN from 23 Oct, BRU-PUJ from 24 Oct. Most probably a Boeing 787 DREAMLINER.

If i m right it's was already the case last winter, like United Airlines which uses B777-300ER on the Washington Brussels route.

Montreal, New York and Washington are among the most biggest market for Sub-Saharan Africa in North America followed by Houston and Toronto. Only Houston is not linked to Brussels.

2024. Top 5 point to point markets for Washington (dest served by Brussels Airlines) :

Accra : 77 000 pax
Nairobi : 46 000 pax
Douala : 23 900 pax
Freetown: 16 700 pax
Entebbe : 16 650 pax

2024. Top 5 point to point markets for Montreal (dest served by Brussels Airlines) :

Dakar : 38 900 pax
Douala : 29 900 pax
Abidjan : 23 900 pax
Yaounde : 19 380 pax
Kinshasa : 13 800 pax

And it's only top 5 markets. Then you have to add that some passengers flying between Brussels and Montreal or Bru and Washington to and from Africa have connecting beyond IAD or YUL to Vancouver, Boston, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Seattle, Minneapolis,.....Of course the competition is stiff but with the daily average of passengers flying through Brussels you can probably almost fill a B777 on some North American routes only with Africa flights. The rest come from Europe and probably few with Asia

Probably yes. For AC it's the deal that they will scale up first on exciting routes before opening the third one

Riyadh Air announced that it will add 2 European destinations at the end of 2025. They have for the moment 1 single B789.
Per aircraft they will receive, they will open 2 destinations per month. By 2030 they want to serve every single European city.

Very good I would say. It was in the past a very popular route with SN.

LOT is nicely increasing their presence at BRU.

Further in the past they had also a flight from Gdansk to BRU

In general after Covid, SN was not flying anymore to Poland. But since some time they did it again but not with good slots, at least to WAW. They even scaled back with less frequencies.
Regarding Cracow in the past, it was most of the time full plane with mix of tourists, business and Belgians who are working there.

Good morning,

Sadly, as from 24OCT25 Brussels Airlines drop Birmingham flights for Winter 2025/2026 and summer 2026.
Birmingham Airport loses Brussels Airlines but also Vueling !

SN leaving BHX is not coming as a complete surprise. BHX changed a lot and has become mainly a holiday or low-cost airport. I returned to BHX with SN lately after 10 years not flying there. I was really amazed how this airport has changed. It used to be a crowdy airport with major airlines serving it (including BA). Now, I only noticed a few regular airlines (LH, KLM and SN). LF on both my flights was around 70%.

Hi,

Concerning BHX ... SN closes destinations as they miss their DAsh8, Avro....

Time to get some E-jets or something less big then A319.

Otherwise they open a field of oopurnities for the rest...

Nobody wants to fly BHX via FRA or MUC ;)

Time to step in! EASYJET !

New types flown 2024 : DO228, A338 , PC6

Air Baltic A220-300 = 148 seats
Brussels Airlines A319 = 141 seats

Your forgot Emirates, Turkish Airlines, Aer Lingus, Qatar Airways, Air India, SAS Scandinavia, Saudia. United ended its route in late 2010s. In deed, BXH is well served by LCC airlines, but you can find lots of full-service airlines.

The problem is that Brussels Airlines doesn't serve Asia while there are a strong diaspora from India and about Africa there is a strong competition, but demand is very low.

East Africa : KLM, Air France, Emirates, Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, Saudia, Lufthansa.
Central Africa : Qatar Airways, Air France, Turkish Airlines
West Africa : Air France, Turkish Airlines, KLM, Lufthansa
Southern Africa (SN doesn't serve Southern Africa) : KLM, Air France, Emirates, Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, Saudia, Lufthansa.

It's quite hard for Brussels Airlines to compete.

Top market in Sub Saharan point to point demand from and to BHX (only Brussels Airlines destinations) for 2024:

Nairobi : 9 935 pax
Accra : 6 298 pax
Entebbe : 3 100 pax
Banjul : 861 pax
Dakar : 757 pax
Abidjan : 553 pax
Douala : 485 pax
Kigali : 325 pax

After Kigali i don't have data, demand is too small
