Brussels Airport (BRU): Border control

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
I know what passport control is for! All I'm saying is that we need to do a little less checking at the moment because the organization isn't keeping up. As for the rest, I've already given my arguments. Besides, I think that there are rarely average airports(passengers wise)like Brussels that suffer from this problem.
Hasta la victoria siempre.
Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
The solution could be very simple : go for full automatisation. From my own experience : 10+ automatic pasport-scanning lines supervised by 2 or 3 agents result in no cue and top notch experience.Where ? SIN of course....from where we could learn a lot more about efficiency.
Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
I think there are even 20 or so ...

Opening the floodgates isn't doing a little less checking.lumumba wrote: 09 Jun 2025, 17:04 I know what passport control is for! I don't believe in this passport checking anyway most of people that wants to enter (and can't)go via other ways.

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
Maybe so, but those who are cought are cought. It would be interesting to have some statistics about that.lumumba wrote: 10 Jun 2025, 09:03 I don't believe in this passport checking anyway most of people that wants to enter (and can't)go via other ways.
Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
Where are them?
If you go true the left side after a small door and true a snake pad you arrive at some, but there are no more than 8?!

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
It's never perfect, now for it to work while they reorganize everything we need to simplify and lighten the controls.

What about just being patient?lumumba wrote: 10 Jun 2025, 17:34It's never perfect, now for it to work while they reorganize everything we need to simplify and lighten the controls.
Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
We can be patient. But there is nothing extraordinary about simplifying and lightening controls; it happens regularly in several countries in several places and it makes our lives easier.
I think commercially for the service at the airport, it is important we must remain competitive and not lose passengers.
I repeat there is no hermetic border!

No one is pretending there is. Is it a reason to eliminate or even reduce controls?lumumba wrote: 10 Jun 2025, 18:33We can be patient. For the reasons I've given, yes. But I think we have to agree that we will never agree.convair wrote: 10 Jun 2025, 19:37No one is pretending there is. For commercial reasons above all!
It's already happened here and in other countries, and here it is necessary it's common.

Can you give examples of countries that have eased border control, and the benefits this had for the security of those countries?lumumba wrote: 10 Jun 2025, 20:17For the reasons I've given, yes. I don't have any personal experience with it but it is known, and also that it happens, it is never announced obviously.lucas wrote: 10 Jun 2025, 20:41Can you give examples of countries that have eased border control, and the benefits this had for the security of those countries?lumumba wrote: 10 Jun 2025, 20:17For the reasons I've given, yes. You can imagine that with the millions of people entering and leaving the European Union, there are always times when controls are more lax it's impossible other wise.

For another experience of border control delays, read this trip report:

More than two hours after arrival at Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
I NEVER BUT NEVER I didn't have to wait at the border in Frankfurt.(I really love to transit there)
Paris yes on average 45 minutes (but only to the train)but those are much larger airports.
Lisbonne easy sometimes 15 minutes .
Porto perfect easy best airport.
Luanda also good between 20 and 35 minutes.
Johannesburg very good about 15 minutes.
Casablanca never waited.
Brussels Generally it's very good, except sometimes when it's downright bad but I never transit in Brussels so I have no experience about that.

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
Are we talking about OR Tambo or Lanseria ?
For Tambo, with my old SA passport, yes, 5 minutes tops.
With my BE passport, easily 1 hour. Maybe you lucked out to not get there in the morning rush when all the red-eyes arrive.
Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
I arrive mostly around afternoon never had problems with Airlink, years ago it was the same I was arriving with KLM als never had problems.Matt wrote: 11 Jun 2025, 08:41Are we talking about OR Tambo or Lanseria ?

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
KL591 has been a day flight since as long as I can remember and arrives around 9PM (?) in the evening. Too lazy to look it up.lumumba wrote: 11 Jun 2025, 08:47I arrive mostly around afternoon never had problems with Airlink, years ago it was the same I was arriving with KLM als never had problems.Matt wrote: 11 Jun 2025, 08:41Are we talking about OR Tambo or Lanseria ?

Then make the same comparison

I just share my experience it is indeed limited.
