Andre - I agree that the Sun and Daily Mirror are trash - we have the Daily Express delivered every day, and VC10 keeps saying she will stop buying it, but she likes to do the various crosswords. We have bought the Daily Express all the time I can remember.
We also get a local broadsheet (similar size to The Times) called the Yorkshire Post, and that too has in depth details of Beckham's press conference!
England's result today will decide whether they play Greece or Portugal in the next round, so I read.

Greece plays against France, that's some tuff nut to crack I guess. Heard that some 8000 greek fans will travel to Portugal on Friday for the game mostly by plane on Friday. I am desperately trying to find out what charters will depart from ATH in order to make some decent photos!

Who wants to be a millionaire?

Your left-midfielder plays the game of his life and is of constant threath for the defence. Thanks to him you are up front 2-1. What will you do?
A. You substitute him for a slow defender
B. You keep him on the field and win 4-1
C. You change him for Overmars
D. Whenever he says he is tired you change him

You're spot on there bigjulie! Try Sloeber if you get the chance (and if you like beer), it is a real delight and a nice easy drinking beer! (In 11 weeks I shall be enjoying my first full day in Brugge, and I hope the weather there will be as nice as it is in Scarborough just nowbigjulie wrote:Looks like you will have to put up with Beckham-mania Louise, but as they say, s**t happens. Have a Sloeber anyway. :drink:  I hope that is the way you spell it
I have no one to follow in the football now that Spain are out

Again a trash tabloid. I looked the game on RTBF2 and they did not mention Beckham more than necessary. I sawa summary on EuroNews this morning, and they did not mention Beckham at all. But a star is born, the new English Pele: Wayne Rooney! He was duly mentioned in all reports.Comet wrote:In the news papers today there is a photo of Beckham hugging Rooney from behind.

Andre, pictured below is today's front cover of your beloved quality newspaper "The Guardian". It shows, like all the other English daily newspapers, Rooney being jumped from behind by Beckham!sn26567 wrote:Louise,
Just as Frederic said, if you were reading a decent newspaper like the Times, the Independent or the Guardian instead of the trash like the Sun, the Daily Mirror or the Daily Express, you would not be filled up with Beckham stories and you would get a balanced report of the games.

Louise: is there anything you don't take so overly serious? What an overreaction...
The Guardian is only showing a picture. Is there a Beckham discussion in the newspaper?
And it's not because you have a Beckham-phobia that other Britons don't like football (and the footballers).

I thought the same rules applied in all football tournaments - that if several teams have the same number of points then the ones who have scored most goals will go through?sn26567 wrote:The strange thing about it is that three teams ended with 5 ponts, and if the score of Denmark-Sweden had been 0-0 or 1-1, Italy would have been qualified.
The rules of this Euro 2004 will always surprise me...
It is a shock to see Italy exit though, so there could be some surprises in this tournament yet. It was as much a shock as the exit of Spain. There is talk in the media of a Scandinavian "conspiracy" between Denmark and Sweden to try and ensure that they both qualified for the quarter finals.

It looks a bit suspicious but if you have watched the game you will not see any 'conspiracy-theory', except for the last minutes where the result was 2-2 they both knew they where qualified for the next round.Comet wrote:There is talk in the media of a Scandinavian "conspiracy" between Denmark and Sweden to try and ensure that they both qualified for the quarter finals.

Well I didn't watch the game, I was just stating what the "pundits" in some of the newspapers were claiming was going on, even before the match was played.luchtzak wrote:It looks a bit suspicious but if you have watched the game you will not see any 'conspiracy-theory', except for the last minutes where the result was 2-2 they both knew they where qualified for the next round.Comet wrote:There is talk in the media of a Scandinavian "conspiracy" between Denmark and Sweden to try and ensure that they both qualified for the quarter finals.

And now something funny to light things up even more.Greek Football Federation is in serious difficulties ,because due to the high season there are not enough charters to bring the fans To Lisbon. As Mr. Gagatsis the Head of the Federation put it yesterday "We have the tickets for the match but we haven't got the planes to bring 'em there"!!!
