BRU Summer 2026: news, new routes, airlines
Transavia wants to open a crew base by summer 2026.
"The low-cost airline is struggling to make its operations profitable in Belgium. It is facing high costs, complex planning, and inefficient deployment of its crews in Brussels. Transavia also says its future growth is hampered by a lack of hotels to accommodate its crews."
"We have the ambition to continue our growth in Brussels. At Schiphol, it's challenging and the costs are also higher. Schiphol must shrink, there is still room in Brussels."

There is no lack at all of hotels around the airport. It's rather that they want them as cheap as possible in a hotel. Tja, that's your problem Transavia.Miqvell wrote: ↑15 Apr 2025, 13:49 Transavia wants to open a crew base by summer 2026.

Or maybe try one of your own country, Van der Valk hotel.
BTW, a lot of foreign crews are using Van der Valk Brussels Airport

Everyone in the industry knows how difficult it is to secure rooms for crew (do you realise how many hotel rooms you need to accommodate crew for the fleet they want to have in BRU?).
As cheap as possible doesn’t go with Air France nor Transavia NL standard.
Idiotic post.

Van de Valk is a pretty decent hotel.Atlantis wrote: ↑15 Apr 2025, 20:31There is no lack at all of hotels around the airport. It's rather that they want them as cheap as possible in a hotel. If you want cheap, there's always Ibis Budget.

Why would Transavia need hotel rooms in Brussels? If they have planes based in Brussels, they should employ local pilots.

Transavia FR pilots are hired by Air France and are under Air France conditions.
Transavia NL pilots are hired by Transavia NL and are 99,9% Dutch nationals.
By opening a crew base in BRU, they would avoid hotel rooms but that wouldn't mean local pilots would be hired. They would fall under the conditions of the AOC that will be based in BRU (Transavia NL, I guess).
Nobody speaks French in Transavia NL flights out of BRU, and nobody speaks Dutch on Transavia FR flights from BRU.

Yeah, sure, mister knows everything better including offending people quite often. Maybe course in communication skills? Just an advice.Lux_avi wrote: ↑15 Apr 2025, 22:26Atlantis wrote: ↑15 Apr 2025, 20:31There is no lack at all of hotels around the airport. Each company have a close eye on the budget. For crews many times it's very basic.
As said before, there are a lot of hotels around the airport. If they would do their homework, they will find for their crews

I had some courses in communication skills, one of the subjects was "don't make yourself ridiculous by telling things you don't know".Atlantis wrote: ↑16 Apr 2025, 11:58

Re: BRU Summer 2026: news, new routes, airlines
As Transavia cockpitcrew I can say you are wrong, Transavia has to follow strict rules negotiated with the union concerning hotel accommodations (m², restaurants & bars, things to visit, service, cleaning, etc..). Because of those factors, only 2 'NH' hotels in Brussels are left. During the high season, those hotels are full of European tourists & business people. For the operations they are doing in Brussels, they required sometimes more than 50 rooms in 1 hotel. KLM also has the same hotel contracts and take a lot of rooms as well (in the NH Leuven), so that's not a possibility for Transavia. Simple or bad 3/4* hotels are not possible due to CAO. Contracts with hotel owners/brands are negotiated not only for Belgium but for the whole of Europe where they have nightstops.Atlantis wrote: ↑15 Apr 2025, 20:31

I can say there are already Belgians in the cockpit & cabin that would go to Brussels (now EIN base), and they are looking to recruit a lot of extra locals. A lot of Dutch people are considering moving to BE as well due to the high costs of living in NL.
The 99.9% Dutch nationals factor is wrong, let's say 95%. Last couple of years, a lot of Belgian pilots tried and succeeded their move to Trans NL because of the better contractual conditions compared with Irish/Belgian airlines. And even more and more Belgian cabin members are entering at the moment. The AOC will probably still be the Dutch one, because the dutch union VNV is negotiating phase with Transavia about those conditions. But this still has to be confirmed. The Belgian crew certainly can speak French, and some Transavia NL flights are operated by French speaking Transavia FR crew during wetleases.Lux_avi wrote: ↑16 Apr 2025, 10:58

Exciting times ahead for Transavia NL combined with Transavia FR in Brussels. Loadfactors so far have been great last couple of years.

I think you better take another communication course then... they learn you that being rude is not one off the skills.Lux_avi wrote: ↑16 Apr 2025, 12:20I had some courses in communication skills, one of the subjects was "don't make yourself ridiculous by telling things you don't know".Atlantis wrote: ↑16 Apr 2025, 11:58

Levan Moseshvili, General Director of the Georgian Airports Association, met with Carsten Tsang, Regional Manager of Lufthansa Group for Central and Eastern Europe.
The parties discussed the prospects for the entry of new airlines within the Lufthansa Group into Georgia. "Our long-term goal is to interest airlines, such as Brussels Airlines and SWISS, in the Georgian aviation market."

It's exciting to see new airlines potentially entering the Georgian market! Brussels Airlines and SWISS would really enhance connectivity for travelers.
Re: BRU Summer 2026: news, new routes, airlines
Georgia airways used to fly 2X per week to BRU with Embraer 190 but they stopped a while ago..
