A couple of years ago there was an official visit to our country from the ruler of Oman..Rumour had it that Oman airways was interested in opening a new route to BRU..Nothing happened
A couple of days ago official visit to the Netherlands and yes as a result Oman air will open new route to AMS...Another one we lost..Reason: no connections in BRU (?)...Will be the same for all big international players I think(Air India,...).
Oman air was originally close to Star Alliance when they came at the time there was surely a possible synergy today it is no longer the same thing.
They are in Oneworld now. Amsterdam is a skyteam hub. It's not about alliance but market potential. Oman Air serves some huge markets in Asia for Amsterdam.
Here are the top 5 biggest point to point market for Amsterdam with Oman Air destinations
Dubaï : 304 000 pax (Nov 23 Oct 24)
Bangkok : 258 000 pax (Nov 23 Oct 24)
Jakarta : 146 000 pax (Nov 23 Oct 24)
Manilla : 143 000 pax (Nov 23 Oct 24)
Delhi : 123 000 pax (Nov 23 Oct 24)
Early 2020s was not good for Oman Air. They have reduced the fleet by removing all A330s. Zurich is now a seasonal destination, they have closed their route to Athens (that will resume this year) and Paris CDG is no longer served daily (4 flights a week). They have closed 4 routes to Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, they didn't resume their route to Nairobi.
Oman Air has 32 aircraft in its fleet. It's very small if you compare to others national flag carriers in the region. They can't expand widely like Qatar Airways, Emirates or Saudia.
