In 2024 only 208K pax on Antwerp airport, minus 20%. Mainly bcs of problems with the TUI planes.
Only business flights were 5% up.

As a matter of fact, those airports, just like OST and LGG, absorb a lot of subsidies. Would it not be better to just close them and hand it over to BRU and CRL? Keep only 2 main pax airports and 3 cargo airports.

Connect those cities with a high frequency trains to the main airports

How about flight schools? ANR is important for that.
You don't have to look only at the subsidies ANR gets, but the amount of jobs it creates & what the return in "investment" is.

One would be inclined to say, this is again a subjective statement from the Green parties.
Objective version is that in the first 6 months, growth was +40% compared to 2023 and +6,2% compared to record year 2019. So that reflects the market potential, room for continued growth.
And yes, afterwards technical issues (on worldwide scale) stopped all Embraer TUI flights for months in a row. Pretty logical that this drastically impacts the year-statistics...

The only thing this airport needs ,
is a hub to a big airport with connections to other continents !

This will have to be announced gently to Egis.
They signed a 25-year concession that started in 2014 and have already invested a lot e.g. in RWY renovation and new Apron 2 at EBOS.
May cost mucho money to close down the shop.

They did have that, until British Airways decided they needed a longer runway to lift more passengers per flight and turn a profit, and airport authorities did not agree (or maybe the municipalities around the airport didn't agree)

Something like a 1 hour train connection to AMS, 15 times a day? Just saying…

Exactly!!!
So much money is going but I'm not sure about LGG with so much cargo it has to be profitable?!

There are enough fields for flight schools better geographically located and above all less expensive to operate...

You also need a certain infrastructure to train, so ANR certainly has reason to exist.

You can train in Charleroi with the same infrastructure there is no reason for Antwerp to exist, perhaps just to annoy local residents, make noise and cost money.

That's a long time ago, no?
I doubt a longer runway is needed, as aircraft (like the Embraers or the A220) exist that can operate short haul from Antwerp. For comparison, look at FLR (Florence/Firenze) airport: about the same size of runway, and multiple operators. So the distance to BRU (or trains to AMS or CDG) might be a reason to not operate from ANR, but the runway shouldn't.

FLR runway is +200 m longer, makes a lot of difference!

Are you sure? FLR is 1560m / 5118ft, ANR is 1510m / 4954ft. So it's a difference of less than 200ft, about 50 meters?
