My colleague was on the SN flight of today they changed him this morning to Lufthansa without notice!Homo Aeroportus wrote: ↑18 Feb 2025, 11:21I don't think there was a flight planned to LAD today.
It is SN227 to ACC that is cancelled today. Announced already days ago and OO-SFP has been put on SN223 BJL-CKY.

BRU web site doesn't show a flight to LAD today. SN359 operated by OO-SFJ is going straight to FIH.
Maybe the LF was too low to fly the LAD-FIH leg and those Pax have been transferred to the LH flight. "Slight" inconvenience (night flight arriving tomorrow morning in LAD) but understandable.

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2025
I guess it's related to the fact tjat SN crew doesn't sleep at Kinshasa since riots 3 weeks ago. The Kinshasa Brussels does a stop in Cameroon.Homo Aeroportus wrote: ↑18 Feb 2025, 14:22lumumba wrote: ↑18 Feb 2025, 12:33My colleague was on the SN flight of today they changed him this morning to Lufthansa without notice!Homo Aeroportus wrote: ↑18 Feb 2025, 11:21

The demand is too weak to Luanda to serve the city non in both ways. From the next week, bookings to Luanda are now open and flights are tagged via FIH.
https://www.aviation24.be/airlines/luft ... -security/To ensure staff safety, the airline has implemented new security measures, including not allowing crew to stay overnight in Kinshasa. Return flights will now make a technical stop in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
Air France did the same thing when they have ended flights to Accra. Flights were tagged with Ouagadougou. But flights to OUA are suspended since almost 2 years now. But serving only Accra, AF wasn't able to make money by serving Accra non stop in the both ways. So they have closed the CDG Accra route.
Same thing wiith Monrovia. They resumed flights in Nov 20 tagged via Bamako. But they have decided to add more flights to Bamako 1st via Banjul (2021-2022) and then via Conakry (2022-2023). Monrovia service was splitted but the route was loss making. Monrovia route closed in 2023.
Since few weeks, AF reduced flights to Ndjamena and Abuja. Before the flight was CDG NDJ Abuja and was operated 4 times a week. But now AF operates flights to NDJ 3 times a week. Flights are now tagged with Malabo. And about Abuja, they operate flights via Lome, same thing : 3 times a week.
Again nothing new, but indeed it's never a good thing to suspend routes, however if you don't want to put your company in bad state, you have to take some hard decisions. And Africa it's probably one of only continent on the earth, where to operate flights can be sometimes a challenge
Air France forced to "adapt" its program to N'Djamena and Central Africa
After the attack targeting the presidency and as the withdrawal of French troops in Chad looms, the French company has cancelled or diverted several of its flights, and is reviewing its organization.
[...]
This line, coupled with Abuja, in Nigeria and initially planned with a frequency of four flights per week, had already suffered multiple incidents in recent days: the flights of January 12, 16 and 19 were thus either diverted directly to Abuja, or to Douala, the Cameroonian economic capital. From February, the N'Djamena destination will be served three times a week, via a coupling with Malabo, in Equatorial Guinea, the company specifies.
[...]
To balance things out, the connections to Abuja, Lomé and Douala (initially coupled with Malabo) are also affected by “adjustments” to the airline’s flight plan, which does not provide details. The said modifications are “variable depending on the days and destinations” and “the customers concerned will be notified individually by SMS, e-mail or via the Air France application,” the airline simply states.

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2025
LAD id not performed as the crew does not stay in Kinshasa anymore but in Yaounde. Flying through Luanda would mean for the crew to performe BRU-LAD-FIH-NSI... It,s not about low loadfactor, A330 in Manilla etc, it's just for operational reason, as long as there will be a technical stop in Yaounde, there will be no flight to Kinshasa via Luanda.Homo Aeroportus wrote: ↑18 Feb 2025, 14:22lumumba wrote: ↑18 Feb 2025, 12:33My colleague was on the SN flight of today they changed him this morning to Lufthansa without notice!Homo Aeroportus wrote: ↑18 Feb 2025, 11:21

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2025
Couldn't temporarily hiring a long-haul aircraft be a solution?
Other airlines do that too.

They found serious corrosion issues on one of the two A330s in in mx MNL.Boeing767copilot wrote: ↑18 Feb 2025, 16:58 Couldn't temporarily hiring a long-haul aircraft be a solution?

Therefore, an Air Europa B787 will be wetleased from Feb 22nd to march 15th to tackle the issue.

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2025
Totaly agree with Atlantis. If these issues sould discovered after, some people would say, Brussels Airlines is not serious.
We know why the airline struggles to get back its A330s. And others have issues ( the A330 with the landing gear issue). Of course like some have explained, with a small fleet of A330s, we can see the consequences immediately with some long haul
I m not expert, but it's probably not easy to find airline that can lease you an aircraft quickly. The 3 mains providers for long haul aircraft in Europe are quite busy
Hifly Malta has 3 A330s grounded for maintenance, and the others are operating for airlines (Laser Airlines, Iberia and Sunwing) or institutions.
Euroatlantic operates some flights for LOT Polish
Privilege Style operates flights for Iberia.
I should add Universal Sky leases their A340-600 to Suriniame Airways
And of course you have to get the right aricraft for your operations. Probably a B777-200ER (Euroatlantic and Privilege) or B767 (Euroatlantic) , or 340-300 (Universal Sky) even leased less than 1 month is too expansive for Brussels Airlines.
Air Europe used to lease its aircraft. At Paris we seen them to operate flights for Air Madagascar few years ago. And sometimes you can see Air Europa operating flights between Amstedam and Madrid using the 787-9. I guess some periods they have free slots to lease their aircraft.

Corrosion seems not see easy to treat? Can they fix that in a few weeks? Or could it be the plane is out for months?Darjeeling wrote: ↑18 Feb 2025, 17:39They found serious corrosion issues on one of the two A330s in in mx MNL.Boeing767copilot wrote: ↑18 Feb 2025, 16:58 Couldn't temporarily hiring a long-haul aircraft be a solution?

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2025
What with the 11th A330 coming in? I assume that after its maintenance, also in Manila, it will come to SN, or does it first go to LH again for more operations in March - April? It was said that it would come only in May to SN, no? Or does it also go first to the paint shop?

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2025
I'm astonished by the fact that an a330 around MSN 1000 has this much corrosion already...Darjeeling wrote: ↑18 Feb 2025, 17:39They found serious corrosion issues on one of the two A330s in in mx MNL.Boeing767copilot wrote: ↑18 Feb 2025, 16:58 Couldn't temporarily hiring a long-haul aircraft be a solution?

Anyway, nothing much SN can do about it I guess

Well, the first operators of these aircraft were SQ and CX and high humidity should be something regular at their home bases.
Re: Brussels Airlines in 2025
As the majority of SN's A330's were operated by SQ and CX before, other aircraft might face the same problems I guess?oldblueeyes wrote: ↑19 Feb 2025, 08:40 Well, the first operators of these aircraft were SQ and CX and high humidity should be something regular at their home bases.

I do not know, but as a comparison, from the 7 A332 acquired second hand for Eurowings, all the 4 coming from EVA Air from Taiwan were very problematic and at the end of the day they ended as scrap. To the contrary, those coming from Qatar Airway from a hot and dry environment are flying today.
