But aviation is less taxed than the train for example it would be good to tax fuel like that we can develop the train for short and medium distances and we would no longer have to fly on these short distances in the end obviously for climate purpose.Atlantis wrote: ↑01 Jan 2025, 17:05First of all, happy New Year to you allEstablished02 wrote: ↑31 Dec 2024, 12:13On the other hand, the EU is determined to put considerably higher taxes on air travel in the upcoming years as a consequence of their 'Green Deal'. SN is going to increase already the fares. But the extra fares which has to be paid in Belgium are peanuts if you compare with the neighbour countries. There it is at least 3 to 4 times more expensive. Much more Dutch people are looking over the border.
The Belgians will not fly less for a few euros more.
Second. The prices are more up in the West than in the East. There they refuse to count those extras as they give as a reason that it's bad for their economy. Who can blame them? Europe is not equal. The East is pressing a lot and they get what they want including a mega airport.
The person who wants to pass this bill is Dutch, the same who wants to kill AMS.

Then be sure that the train company will connect the airport with all important cities in the country and over the border. Be sure also that the frequency drastically will go up.lumumba wrote: ↑01 Jan 2025, 17:54But aviation is less taxed than the train for example it would be good to tax fuel like that we can develop the train for short and medium distances and we would no longer have to fly on these short distances in the end obviously for climate purpose.Atlantis wrote: ↑01 Jan 2025, 17:05First of all, happy New Year to you allEstablished02 wrote: ↑31 Dec 2024, 12:13

Are you still that naif that you think they will use the extra taxes to develop the train?
In my opinion, not for the first decade. You are longer on the way by train due to several reasons.
Second. In Scandinavia they have withdrawal from the green deal tax as it was hurting them more. The best ever decision.
Nowadays the modern planes are polluting much less then train or cars.
Have everything in order and running before to cancel all short flights.
Re: BRU: monthly pax, cargo and movement figures
Car's sure ( by the way we have to stop company car's advantage in Belgium also for the same reason also a way to finance green transport)but the train they will pollute less and less in parallel with the production of electricity, that is a fact!Atlantis wrote: ↑01 Jan 2025, 18:08Then be sure that the train company will connect the airport with all important cities in the country and over the border. Anyway this is the future for short and medium transport also to protect the planet.
So we need to find the money to develop that and stop saying that everyone is corrupt etc...
We need to discuss the future, airplane are there too but for longer distances in the near future if there is a political will.
Hasta la victoria siempre.
Re: BRU: monthly pax, cargo and movement figures
The train is only a useful alternative to an airplane for as long as
(a) the total travel time is not prohibitively longer by train.
(b) you can get directly to your destination.
So replacing planes by trains only works regionally. From BRU to Amsterdam, Paris, Cologne, Frankfurt, London, Rotterdam,... Any further places a train at a major handicap to a plane.
You can have a direct flight from BRU to BCN, but you can't have a high speed train from Brussels to Barcelona without calling at different stations along the way or having two switch trains.
Any further than a 2 to 3 hour train drive requires the train to be a part of the experience. Spending a day or 2 on board a sleeper train as part of voyage between two cities.
Trains can only outperform planes on comfort.

Re: BRU: monthly pax, cargo and movement figures
I understand what you are saying but high-speed trains will improve for example for destinations like Lyon Bordeaux Berlin Marseille etc.. will be interesting very quickly after that it will indeed require a large investment but in the medium to long term that is what will happen.Conti764 wrote: ↑01 Jan 2025, 20:22 The train is only a useful alternative to an airplane for as long as
