Re: Lufthansa in 2024
When LH will buy ITA, it will create direct competition for SN on the Africa flights. Not on the majority of course, but ITA is deploying the brand new A321neo, with super business class and Premium economy, on Africa flights like Dakar and Accra.
Italy has also a big African community. For them seems not a problem to deploy it on such destinations where people has more hand luggage and cargo.

Re: Lufthansa in 2024
I hope for ITA that LH will not be allowed to acquire them but the EU Commission with a German president might "overlook" all implications of the operation, in faveur of LH which would probably impose its overall "strategy " on an airline already on a different (perhaps better ?) course. I hope it also for SN which would probably be downgraded even more and get more competition to Africa within the Group. This acquisition does not make sense except for CS's ego.

ITA seems to be expanding in the Middle East with Their A321 Neo.Atlantis wrote: 07 Jun 2024, 19:11 When LH will buy ITA, it will create direct competition for SN on the Africa flights. Re: Lufthansa in 2024
Of course it makes sense for LH, as Italy is the primary non home market in Europe.
The A321LR are mainly targetet for the Middle East routes.
And yes, if done, FCO would be built up to a Southern Hub. Most attractive markets are LatAm with strong Italian heritage population and US Leisure.
The whole P2P Ryanair and Co market from the regional airports is not that interesting.

Re: Lufthansa in 2024
I read the article on the home page about Air France eying 20% stake in Air Europe. The article mentions also interest of multiple partners. Does anyone has any idea to what extend LH is interested to acquire Air Europe. I read that in the past a delegation from LH went to Madrid but no further information. Air Europe would be the perfect addition to LH group which has very poor position in Latin/Central America whereas AF/KLM has already strong position. Would help to fill up the gaps in the LH network. Anyone has more insights on this ?

Re: Lufthansa in 2024
LH was looking into the books as well.
Logically, there are 2 players on the table right now, TAP included, as there would be a legitimate interest from all 3 groups to further consolidate.
