US prosecutors were authorised by a judge to seize a US$90 million A319 VIP, MSN 5445, owned by sanctioned Russian oligarch Andrei Skoch.

Volga-Dnepr Group will cut more than 200 pilots from its AirBridgeCargo and Atran Cargo Airlines subsidiaries flying with Boeing aircraft. IL76 and IL96 are being considered as an alternative to keep the business of these carriers.

Lufthansa states it will not use Russian airspace “due to the current regulatory situation” until 25 March 2023.

Volga-Dnepr Group founder and main owner, Alexei Isaikin, is withdrawing from the beneficiaries of all its Russian and foreign structures and transferring control to management in order for the company to avoid sanctions.

Russian airline KrasAvia appears to be phasing its ATRs out due to the impact of sanctions. An ATR42-500, MSN 641, is now operated by Hunnu Airlines of Mongolia.

Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency will allocate €42 million in subsidies to airlines for refunding passengers the cost of tickets for cancelled flights.

Aeroflot announced the purchase of 323 Russian-made aircraft to renew its fleet due to sanctions. The carrier will buy 210 MC-21s with Russian engines, which will not be assembled until 2024 or 2025, in addition to 73 SSJ100s and 40 TU214s.

Aeroflot was urged by the government to arrange maintenance and spare parts for domestic SSJ100 aircraft.

Russian airline Azur Air is considering the option of upgrading its fleet with MS-21 and IL96 aircraft in the future. As for the existing fleet, the company will be able to maintain the safety of operated aircraft for at least another 5-6 years.

If there is good part in this it's maybe that at least the Russian industry will restart and even maybe with the same strength than USSR period!

S7 Airlines was allowed by the Russian government to take two Boeing 737 MAX out of the country in order to return them to foreign lessors due to the lack of permission to operate these aircraft in Russia. The aircraft will fly to Turkey.

Wizz Air has recovered one of four A320s, MSN 5608, which was stranded in Lviv.

Turkish Airlines has extended the suspension of flights to a number of Russian cities, Ukraine, and Minsk until 31 December 2022.

Lufthansa wants to sell its shares in the Russian airline caterer Aeromar. It holds a 49% stake, and Aeroflot holds the other 51% stake.

Irish lessor AerCap faces a prolonged authorised battle over as much as US$3.5 billion from insurers after 116 of its planes had been seized by their Russian operators, in a dispute that may present a template for a wave of different claims.

Russia failed to win enough votes for re-election to ICAO, in a rebuke of Moscow for aviation-related actions taken after its invasion of Ukraine.

Russia plans to set aside US$22.7 billion from its sovereign wealth fund to replace foreign aircraft with domestic models, as Western sanctions make it hard to get spare parts to fix foreign planes. The funds are expected to be spent by 2030.

Avolon is taking legal action against Lloyds Insurance in the Irish High court, to pursue claims over losses from ten jets stuck in Russia. Avolon recorded a 1Q 2022 impairment of US$304 million to cover the financial impact of the lost jets.

Russia’s State Duma Deputy Chairman Vladimir Gutenev intends to resume the discussion of a bill prohibiting the registration of aircraft in foreign jurisdictions in order to protect Russian passengers from possible sanctions.
