Way to expensive to operate! The aircraft is only useful for companies which allready have a big airbus fleet and want to retain fleet commonality. At least that's what AirInternational magazine said when talking about the new "regional" jets.
Exactly Lyulka. The A318 is a bit like the B736. They are both a "shrink to far". Both planes are only suitable to an airline, if it allready has many planes of the respective family (A320s or B737's). The B736 and the A318 are both quite heavy and thirsty for there size. I don't think that the operating costs are much lower when comparing with an A319 or B73G respectively.
Compared to the B736 and A318 the B717 is still more economical, but therefore has a smaller range. (you can't have everything )
In addition to those facts, the A318 is probably an expensive plane to lease for the moment.
forget all these planes, An124 has found THE perfect plane as replacement for the Avro's. Wait until tomorrow, he will tell you guys everything. (patience is a good virtue )
What about Fokker F-100s There are many on the secondhand market since American is retireing theirs, and I'm sure they can be picked up quite cheeply at this point, due to Fokker's bankrupcy.
