Brussels Airlines has no future, unfortunately.
I agree.. all euro routes can be taken over by other airlines.. africa is becoming less and less important with Ethiopian Qatar even Royal Air Maroc.. Air France covers
The whole continent.. I think that Air Belgium will do great on the Kinshasa route. TUI will take over many leisure destinations (at least they make money).. SN is practically non existent elsewhere..

The only way you can have a national airline in Belgium is one owned by a government which takes the losses for granted.

You mean our tax money? No thank you! If the airline can’t make money, it should fold. Like any other business.

Simple question, do you have a clue of how much of « your » tax money goes to Brussels Airlines?

And how much tax income Brussels Airlines generates? Compare that to those who would take part of their ops (Ryanair & co).

Then we’ll talk.

Can you clarify what you are alluding to?

It's quite clear.

How much "public money" goes to Brussels Airlines?
How much income is generated by the salaries of the Brussels Airlines employees + the jobs they create, and how much would you get from Ryanair if Brussels Airlines was to disappear from BRU?

So? Do you know how much tax money in return is generated through direct and indirect activities related to SN alone? If (when?) the company goes bust, thousands will lose their jobs, directly at SN and indirectly at the airport. Keep also in mind that losing SN will inevitably result in less flying through other (partner) airlines, which in turn result in more job loss.

For some reason SN doens't succeed in making money since its very inception. Heck, since many decades if we take Sabena into acount. In a highly competitive environment with a foreign private owner who is rightfuly expecting a ROI it's nearly impossible to achieve anything.

Take SN out of LH's hands, restructure it into a true full service carrier, offering flights to selected destinations and take the losses for granted. And stop the 'the more the better' approach and instead focus on sustainability.

Ryanair employees pay exactly the same taxes as SN employees.

Ryanair employees pay exactly the same taxes as SN employees, pilots even more as they earn more.
Lol, they might pay the same %age but surely not the same taxes.
How about cabin crew, ground staff, airport fees, ...

Do you think Aviapartner staff don’t pay taxes when they handle Ryanair flights?
Airport fees in Brussels are the same for all airlines, there have been illegal constructions to grant better rates to SN in the past…

You can't seriously believe Ryanair or other low cost carriers would need as much ground staff as Brussels Airlines currently employs...

You also think Ryanair pays the same money to Brussels Airport than SN does?
They mostly don't use bridges while SN does. Here you go for a start...

And FR will never offer the same amount of flights from BRU as SN.

And FR doens't have widebodies.

You mean any other business, like train companies? Postal services? (Regional) airports? Or do you want to privatise those too, and let them fold?

A strike by airport police in OST and LGG threatens the Grand Prix of Belgium in Francorchamps on 28 August.

https://lpost.be/2022/08/21/f1-une-grev ... corchamps/ [French]

The airport police in both airports is reduced from 5 to 3 people. The police unions ask to cancel the decision, or else they will strike from 26 August. However, the F1 pilots should mostly arrive on 24 August, thus the risk of problems at the Grand Prix is low.

According to my information, the special assistance service at Brussels Airport is on strike this morning. I don't have further information, somebody can explain/inform?

Wednesday 09th November will be another one of those many days that passengers will loose money because the Belgian trade unions think a strike will improve their income.
