EastMerchant has successfully arranged the lease extensions for three A380s with Singapore Airlines. Two of the aircraft have already been reintroduced to operations following a period of parking.

Qantas is to return its A380 to operations on 11 January 2022 – three months ahead of schedule.

Asiana Airlines to bring back its A380s from March 2022, flying from Seoul to Los Angeles and Frankfurt.

Qantas pulled a fourth A380, serial 050, out of storage to resume operations after being parked since March 2020.

Singapore Airlines will resume the A380 services to India from today, between Mumbai and Singapore and later the A380 will be used on the Delhi route as well.

Qatar Airways to place its A380 on the Doha – Sydney route from 01 June 2022, replacing the B777.

Lufthansa has decided to retire its A380 fleet for good, as they are too uneconomical. The remainder will exit this year and 2023.

ANA All Nippon Airways is restoring the A380 on seasonal flights from Tokyo to Honolulu starting on 01 July 2022.

Qantas has reinstated its A380 on its Melbourne to Los Angeles route, after bringing its fourth A380, MSN 062, out of Victorville and returning it to passenger service. Five Qantas A380s still remain in Victorville.

Qatar Airways Group CEO Akbar Al Baker (not the best friend of Airbus nowadays) believes that there will not be a second-hand market for the A380 as well as no revival of the superjumbo jet despite the rise in international air travel demand.

Qatar Airways could ground its A380s when deemed time appropriate, as CEO Akbar Al Baker said there is “no long-term future” for jet within the fleet. Al Baker also revealed that obtaining spare parts for existing A380s is becoming more difficult.

Emirates president Tim Clark says the B777-9 and the A350-1000 are too small to replace the A380, and the “math” points to a larger aircraft that will be needed post-2030.

Emirates will place the A380 on the Dubai – Munich route from 18 August 2022, replacing the B777-300ER.

Korean Air plans to extend the A380 schedule listing into the winter 2022/23 season, effective 30 October 2022 on the Seoul Incheon – New York JFK flight.

Malaysia Airlines is believed to be returning all six of its A380s to Airbus by 2022-end, as part of a deal made following the airline’s recent purchase of 20 new A330-900s in August.

Qantas intends to have six A380s flying at the close of 2022 and all 10 of the type in its fleet operating by 2024.

China Southern has likely operated the last commercial flights of its fleet of A380s, as there are no more A380-operated flights in CSA’s schedule.

Etihad has announced it is reintroducing four of its A380s from summer 2023. The A380s’ return will be supported by the addition of five A320s.
