The U.S. Justice Dept. will appeal a court ruling striking down the federal mask mandate on public transportation, at the C.D.C.’s request.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (C.D.C.) said it had concluded that “an order requiring masking in the indoor transportation corridor remains necessary for the public health.

The announcement came a day after the Biden administration said it intended to appeal the ruling from a Florida judge — but only if the C.D.C. decided that the mask mandate was still necessary.

Croatia Airlines will have to undergo restructuring and a fresh attempt will be made at privatising the airline once the effects of the pandemic subside. The carrier will look for a strategic partner, or else the state will ultimately be responsible.

Surinam Airways cancels several flights to/from Amsterdam
Surinam Airways has cancelled its Paramaribo-Amsterdam-Paramaribo flights (PY993/4) on 1, 2, 3 ànd 6 July “for operational reasons“, to the dismay of scores of booked passengers who were left stranded. Only a few of them could be rebooked on other airlines. On 29 June, their last day of operation, the flights PY994/PY993 were operated by an Airhub Airlines A340-300 registered 9H-AHUB (MSN 835, formerly registered OO-ABA by Air Belgium and still in Air Belgium livery). Airhub has been operating for Surinam Airways since 12 June, but now operates for other airlines after the cancellation of its flights for Surinam Airways. Previously, Wamos Air flew the route, and earlier Air Belgium.
Surinam Airways has been in financial difficulties for years and has no longer any aeroplanes. The airline thus relies on wet-leased aircraft to operate its flagship route between Paramaribo and Amsterdam.
https://www.aviation24.be/airlines/airh ... amsterdam/
More bad news for Surinam Airways (SLM) and its customers: till 17th July, all flights between Amsterdam and Paramaribo are now cancelled. And between Paramaribo and Miami, flights are cancelled till 02nd August.

Comment from SLM: “…Surinam Airways acknowledges the enormous inconvenience this has caused and offers its sincere apologies… Surinam Airways regrets the current situation and will spare no effort within its means to minimize the inconvenience caused… The disruption in the flight schedule is attributed to the aftermath of the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, operational challenges due to the lack of its own fleet and the doubling of the fuel price in the past three months… SLM is working hard on an appropriate and sustainable solution for all affected passengers. Compensation vouchers, free rebooking to another date or a voucher for the purchase value of the ticket, which is valid for two years, are available as additional facilities… The reorganization process that should lead to a healthy operational management will take shape in the coming weeks… Surinam Airways regrets the current situation and will spare no effort within its means to keep the inconvenience caused to a minimum…”

Stranded pax are given the choice between a rerouting on own SLM flights (sic) and a voucher, valid for two years. For flights out of Amsterdam, this is illegal: Eurpean legislation states that passengers must be offered the choice between rerouting and a full refund within 7 days. Plus the additional cancellation indemnity fee (600 EUR for long haul).
