Slovenia will need EU approval of its Recovery and Resilience Plan before setting up a new national airline. The recovery plan will be funded by the EU through €5 billion in grants and repayable funds.

Slovenia to submit a proposal to the EU for set up of a new national carrier with €76 million in funds, as part of the country’s Recovery and Resilience Plan.

Slovenia’s government drops plans to establish a new national carrier after EU officials expressed concerns. Talks are in progress to cooperate with Air Serbia as an alternative.

Adria Airways former German owners and management face a government investigation for financial misdeeds that allegedly led to the carrier ending up in receivership in October 2019.

Slovenia’s CAA has not granted Air Adriatic a request for another extension of a deadline to unfreeze the AOC of bankrupt Adria Airways. The AOC is thus not valid anymore.

Adria Airways bankruptcy procedure will be concluded within the next three years, states administrator Janez Pustaticnik. Creditors have reported US$177 million in claims against the carrier, with only a fraction approved.

Air Slovenia is being promoted by politicians as a potential new national carrier to reboot tourism to the country. Elections in April 2022 will determine the fate of the startup.

Slovenia has launched tender procedures for commercial airlines to share up to US$2.1€2 million in subsidies to maintain operations to the country.

Adria Airways receiver has filed a €78 million lawsuit against the former company’s German managers and owners for the damage they caused to its creditors by financially draining the airline.

Slovenia government has adopted a bill allocating €5.5 million in subsidies for airlines to launch new routes and boost frequencies on existing services.

Slovenia to set up a task force to examine the feasibility of setting up a new state-backed carrier. A decision is due in mid-2023.

Wizz Air and Ryanair are both in talks with Slovenia over the potential introduction of subsidised flights, pending EU approval.
