From the Facebook page of the BAF:

"Update Farewell Flight C-130

Due to the bad weather conditions, the Farewell Flight of our Belgian Air Force C-130 can’t take place as planned. Three C-130 Hercules transport aircraft, including 1 Belgian - 1 Polish and 1 American aircraft, will take off from Melsbroek Air Force Base at 1:00 PM to perform a small farewell flight of approximately one hour in our Belgian airspace.

If you still want to make a last picture of our Mighty Herc, it is best to go to the south of our country. The weather conditions in the region of Florennes Air Base are sufficient to photograph the aircraft one last time.

Update of the exact timing will follow as soon as possible!"
Best regards,
Viktor

This weekend at Kigali Airport we had a fine example of the comprehensive or “3D” approach in Belgian foreign relations:
Our departments for

Development Enabel in Rwanda ,
Defence Belgian Air Force and
Diplomacy Diplomatie.Belgium

jointly organized the 4th Airbus A400M flight bringing face mask from a Belgian private donor to #Kigali to support Rwanda Biomedical Center in the fight against #COVID19

According to VRT, the government will invest again in a 'white fleet' (government planes) as part of a major boost to the Defense budget. A little while ago, the Embraers were sold and 2 Falcon 7X planes were leased.

Looks like they will be replaced by new government/VIP/troop transport planes. Not known yet how many and what type(s).

And the NH-90 TTH helicopters will be replaced by some lighter ones, but also by some heavy stuff, like the Chinooks for the transportation of troops.

Two F-16s of Florennes were scrambled to intercept a cargo plane over The Netherlands. They accompanied that aircraft until its final destination Liège airport.

The incident looks more serious than usual. Federal authorities on the scene are conducting a further investigation into the aircraft. Belgian Defence had detected a problem and decided to proceed with an interception.

The F-16s flew supersonic over The Netherlands. The crisis unit of the General Directorate of Air Transport of the FPS Mobility was mobilised, but without being able to determine the seriousness of the incident. Federal police also brought in an explosives detection dog to inspect the plane, and the military called in deminers. The investigation is carried out jointly by the DGTA and the police on the spot.

New helicopter fleet for Belgian Defence (according to the STAR-plan of the minister of defence):

- 15 light helicopters (probably H145M) (+ same type for federal police)
- 10 heavy lift helicopters (probably Chinook)
- 4 SAR helicopters (not clear what type)

Not really Belgian air force related, but I don't know where else to put this news:

The government is looking for a new plane for the Belgian 'coast guard'

This is the current plane: a 46(!) year old Britten-Norman BN-2A-21

It will be interesting to see what type of plane it'll be.

For comparison: the Dutch recently got the Dash 8

And indeed, "museum" is written on the nose section. That's exactly where it belongs! :D

On his recent visit to Israel, PM De Croo's airplane broke down in Cairo.

https://businessam.be/vliegtuig-de-croo ... um=twitter

Apparently, members of the Belgian government (and royal family) have to fly foreign, private planes as our Air Force does not have a decent sized VIP aircraft.... (only 2 small leased Falcons)

This time, the PM flew to Israel with a private Lithuanian B737

Are we a third-world country? About time for Belgium to buy a decent government (medium-long range) aircraft! All countries have them...

Hi.

There are currently 2 Belgian Air Force A400Ms in DR Congo. One is leaving Kindu and another one is arriving at Kinshasa.
