On 29 June, British Airways flight #BA247 (Boeing 777-300ER reg. G-STBL) made an emergency landing 8 hours (!) after taking off from London Heathrow to Sao Paulo. The U-turn occurred off the South Moroccan coast.

Not that it makes a lot of difference, but the maintained altitude on downwind was 3000ft AMSL and later on 2000ft AMSL for the intercept according to FR24 pressure altitude data.

That engine noise was really unusual which drew my attention. Now I know why. Must have been the bird yelling.
Congrats to the flight crew to have handled the situation without ending in the Hudson.

TUIFly's TB1101 ANR->ALC returned to ANR after half an hour into the flight. Fire brigade on standby as a precaution as no assistance was required, but aircraft was relatively heavy (full pax load) for the short runway. The flight was resumed within the hour.

It's like thaht planes which are a few minutes to land at CDG which cannot go to Paris are diverted to ... Madrid or Rome, while London, Brussels and Luxembourg are not far away.
