Business Class Travel and Business Aviation

Post by freddylegen »

The World of Business Class Travel Aviation and Business Class travel is experiencing great change in both aircraft and corporate attitudes.

The significant change in the use of executive or corporate-owned jet aircraft is due to the creation of new types of aircraft and the emergence of new low cost airlines based upon these new 'cheaper" aircraft. "Very Light Jets" (VLJ) will appear in ever-increasing numbers in the next decade. Statistics show that the makers of all business jets are enjoying a sales bonanza with the year 2007 showing sales in excess of 1000 aircraft. Current estimates forecast a delivery of 1400 aircraft per year.

Many companies are now more aware of the time versus cost of executive travel. As an example, it is difficult to fly from a smaller regional airport in Europe to one in the UK and return within one working day. Commercial airlines, in the main, cannot solve the problem. The development of VLJ's is establishing a new niche market for these aircraft.

Manufacturers such as Cessna and the Brazilian manufacturer of the Embraer are producing business jets in the $1.5 to $3 million range. Operating costs are significantly lower than contemporary jets such as the Learjet and the Dassault Falcon, whose prices are nearer $30-$40 million, albeit with much greater passenger capacities. The latest from Cessna can reach Milan from London and fly fast enough to use the commercial airways around Europe. Given the high cost of flight crews, landing fees, maintenance and fuel; most companies will hire rather than purchase. This fact has stimulated the creation of new types of airlines offering a cross between air taxis and regular airline services. These include London Executive Aviation, Blink and Jet Bird all operating the new VLJ. This development within the airline industry is akin to the entry and provision of low cost air travel by airlines such as EasyJet and Ryanair in earlier times.
