Economies of scale (& to some extent the push in Austria to put climate impact higher on the agenda as a condition for saving Austrian): rather fly less but with higher capacity aircraft.

And yes that will mean that certain routes will no longer be viable and others will see lower frequencies. Just like in BRU you see Bristol, Hannover and Billund disapear (for now at least) after the termination of the CityJet contract.

But this is talking structural fleet changes for Austrian, I'm sure on the very short term they'll want to make good use of their A319's (and Q400's which also all leaving, and partially earlier than foreseen) in the restart of operations (well, depends on if and how they apply social distancing, 100 pax in an A320 is easier to distance than 100 pax on an A319).

Well, if LH will not be careful enough a third party will walk away with some of their daughters.
Etihad and IAG showed interest in Austrian. Maybe not to take them over but they approached the Austrian government regarding Austrian.

It is not longer a secret that they would like to be stronger in the more East of Europe.

If IAG is interested in one part, LH better has to make a deal also with SN if they will secure their backyard

Indeed! In exchange for a €767 million loan (2.5 times more than what SN is asking for), Austria’s government wants assurances from Lufthansa Group that Austrian Airlines will maintain a hub in Vienna. Alternatives to state aid are being examined as well.

A friend of mine based in Vienna and an aviation enthusiast like us and that is following very closely what is happening with OS says that there are rumors the Austrian government prefers to let OS go bankrupt as it would be cheaper for them to make a new airline. If OS goes bust it cancels any debt they have. We shall know next week what will happen. Again I emphasize it is just a rumor. I asked for a link but still haven't received one. If I do I'll post it here.

Or some of the B787's Lufthansa ordered? I can't imagine that they would just let go of their long-haul activities.
