Airbus has done the first ground tests of the Trent 900, which will power the A380. The engine has been mounted on an A340-300 testbed.

It looks so huge compared to those tiny little CFM 56s you usually see on the A343s

I suppose they will takeoff, with only engines 1 & 4 running, or only the three normal ones. (They don't need all the power since they are "empty" when doing the tests).
Then once they are airborne they will turn the trent900 on.
That's my guess !!

I just posted the news that Virgin Atlantic has postponed the delivery of its A380s.
Let's hope that this trend will not expand!

Impressive
8O
The fact that they mounted the Trent900 on the inside nacelle is the proof of how heavy this engine is (with respect to the "tiny" CFM56!!)
Have you seen how close to the ground the new engine is because of that !
On the
second picture you can clearly see that they had to modify the leading edge because of the new nacelle 8O
Let's see how it performs in flight

That engine is seriously impressive! Is it powerful enough to enable the A340 pictured to sustain flight on its own? I'm not talking about taking off with it on one engine! But in a cruise? Funny qu I know but never the less interesting to know! Thanks.

That engine is amazing! And it will be more amazing to see 4 of them on the Airbus A380!
