Storm Ciara 09/02/2020

Post by Boeing767copilot »

The flights from JFK to BRU this morning in less than 5h45 thanks to the tailwind of storm Ciara. Unbelievable.

DL140 5h45
SN502 5h30

UA972 from ORD to BRU in less than 7 hrs.

I'm in Porto and flying home to Brussels tonight at 4:20pm local time, with ryanair.

So far not cancelled.
If it happens that it gets cancelled, do I get anything? Hôtel, food, new flight?
Or nada?

According to FR24, your taxi (EI-DCI) is already in OPO since yesterday evening so no risk of "Due to the late arrival of the aircraft ...".
Both FR24 and Flightstats.com maintain the flight on schedule.
Forecast on arrival is windy but nothing so bad as to make landing here impossible. PROB40 TEMPO 0917/0920 22030G55KT, gusty but no excessive crosswind.

Have a safe flight.

Storm Ciara is expected to bring a range of impacts including delays and cancellations to air traffic. KLM cancelled 40 flights to and from Amsterdam Schiphol on Sunday. At Brussels airport for the same day, Brussels Airlines cancelled 38 flights, Lufthansa 14, British Airways 2, KLM 2 and Eurowings 2.

One go-around after the other at Heathrow... incredible. Latam 8084 just missed his apprach for the 2nd time, and is now followed by QFA10 who is coming back after what appears to be a tail strike on take-off 20 minutes ago.

A lot of trouble in LHR with heavy crosswind. Multiple go-arrounds and QF10 to Perth returned directly after start.

Meanwhile, at 14:30 utc, I see KLM's BRU-AMS preparing for departure - I trust they know what they are doing, still it does look like a bit of an adventure...

Meanwhile, NHnieuws.nl (Noord-Holland Nieuws) is doing a live broadcast from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, with their camera focussed to aircraft landing on 18R and/or 18C. And with excellent comments from Doron Sajet, their aviation reporter:

Edit: live brodcast is now stopped.
