Re: Unknown from Antwerp harbour
In Belgium, aircraft (including helicopters) may only operate from registered aerodromes, as listed in the AIP.
Re: Unknown from Antwerp harbour
Fyi C-GIRI is registered as a Bell 505 Jet Ranger X.
Re: Unknown from Antwerp harbour
Check!
Thanks AK01
Thing landed 1930 Baden-Baden btw

According to the 'koninklijk besluit' from 29 MAY 2013 (NL/FR) landing/departing outside aerodromes/heliports is allowed with a helicopter under certain conditions.jan_olieslagers wrote: ↑28 May 2019, 18:52 In Belgium, aircraft (including helicopters) may only operate from registered aerodromes, as listed in the AIP.
Apparently it's not in the Canada register (anymore?), might be a delivery indeed.

Re: Unknown from Antwerp harbour
"under certain conditions" EVERYTHING is allowed. The AIP says so often enough: "unless otherwise authorised" or words to that effect.
Re: Unknown from Antwerp harbour
So the departure could very well have taken place somwhere near the Berendrecht Lock indeed. According to ads-b data the last flight was on 8 May with destination Port of Montréal, it probably arrived in Antwerp via ship.

Re: Unknown from Antwerp harbour
Yes, "it could very well", yes indeed. Still, a tad unusual, no? What was so very special about this flight, to justify the extra hassle and expense?
Re: Unknown from Antwerp harbour
Delivery/new owner I guess?

Re: Unknown from Antwerp harbour
Nothing special about that. Plenty of choppers delivered across the pond. Indeed there's a couple of specialised companies around in BE, and likely elsewhere, too. I never heard of one getting an extra permit for taking off from a non-registered heliport, though it is indeed not impossible or excluded. This story makes me very very curious. The more so that a Jet Ranger is not what you'd call an exotic bird.
Re: Unknown from Antwerp harbour
Wouldn't it just be cheaper and faster to depart in the port straight away instead of additional transport to a registered heliport?

Re: Unknown from Antwerp harbour
I don't know, I have no experience. But if it really were, it wouldn't be so exceptional, I think. And, knowing Belgian authorities in general and aviation authorities in particular, I guess that getting the required permissions can be neither cheap nor fast.
And also I should think that, after unloading from the ship, it cannot fly off just like that. Some checks and actions must be required, and that must be much better to do in a facility where all required tools are available.

Re: Unknown from Antwerp harbour
No experience either. However, they don't need an approval from the authorities, provided that the land owner agrees and the departure spot fulfills the specifications described in the KB.
Good point about the checks and actions indeed, I guess it will remain a mystery

Re: Unknown from Antwerp harbour
This was 'future' I-ECJX on its way from the Antwerp harbour to Italy:

Thanks!
Re: Unknown from Antwerp harbour
According to this italian website, the helicopter was flown from Antwerp to Budrione di Carpi (near Bologna) at the end of May.
FYI: (one of) the Bell factor(y)(ies) is located at Montreal/Mirabel (Canada), hence the Canadian (test)registration upon delivery.

Thanks all for your replies!
Was just curious what I could observe eyeball (though very distant & vague)
Keeps me still wondering about the actual reg upon transfer (as ModeS showed Canadian, though seeing pics Italian is more likely)
@Skyjet:
craft was (after ns in Baden-Baden, and presumed fuelstop in St Moritz) last tracked over Modena (and as I recall about the spot now known as the airfield mentioned)
@cHabu:
Did you take the pic in Antwerp (or -earlier- somewhere more up north maybe?)
"On it's way from the Antwerp harbour to Italy" it certainly wasn't in the tied condition as in pic
Keep up the co-research

I am an editor for Scramble magazine. One of my 'tasks' are the civilian movements for some Belgian airports. As such i am 'subscribed' to some photgraphers who post their pics on Flickr. The photo in the link is not my photo but was taken by somebody who works in the Antwerp harbour.mill100 wrote: ↑11 Jun 2019, 12:34 Thanks all for your replies!

The most probable reason for the helicopter showing its canadian registration is not having an Italian ModeS transponder. Not sure how that works, but perhaps there is another forum member who can explain this.
