Well no, it is quite surprising for me. In fact if they decided to take Embraers they would at least discussed it with cabin and cockpitcrews if they would like to fly on it and I have never heard about it....

Hey bart wake up boy, you think they really would ask our opinion about that. From what I heard they are looking at all the contenders but that's it for the moment. In september they are going to form a commission who will decide which aircraft to take. I guess the chief pilots will be on that group but as they are already flying airbus I wonder why they would be interested. Then again maybe the decision has already been taken but we are left in the dark and the rumours are being circulated on purpose (though I wouldn't know why).
Anyway I don't think we'll know which one we'll be flying in a few years until october at the earliest.
I guess they will make the right choise for the company (hope so). Even if I don't like the 717 I would gladly fly it if it's the best aircraft for the pax.

Nice flying ya all.

Ok, I should change my text to: "In fact if they decided to take Embraers they would at least discussed it with chief cabin and chief cockpitcrews"

And if they discussed it with them the rumour will spread soon around SN BA !

ciao,

Bart

Yeah, and then Bart would spread the rumour on Luchtzak.be, right

I tried to vote for the Boeing 717, but an error message prevented me from registering my vote!!
I think as a tried, tested and very well proven design, the Boeing 717 is hard to beat. Okay, the basic design is decades old from the DC9, but the avionics have been updated and it is still a fine aircraft.
From what I remember of Sabena flights to and from the UK, both the Avros and the 737s used to get very busy, I've never been on flights on those aircraft which have been less than full! I always thought that the capacity of the Avros was too small for such routes, certainly to rely solely on the type instead of using it as back up.

Go and check this link you might not be the only one who experienced some problems.

Indeed it's a good airplane. The design may be old but I don't think it's basic, I like it, especially the nose with those little windows on the top of the cockpit.

Bad news: the little windows above the cockpit windows have disappearded on the most recently assembled Boeing 717's. Boeing decided to this because it's cheaper without those eyebrow windows. So if you want to see SN BA B717 with such windows they have to buy/lease second hand exampes.

Damn, they gave such a nice touch to the aircraft.
Has Boeing done the same to the B737NG :?:

Why does everything has do be economical

I just saw in one of the many production list that SN Brussels is currently operating the second largest Avro/BAe-fleet in the world! That's a nice listing for a Belgium company ...

... but I'm going off-topic with this. I've voted for the Embraer 170 because I really love its cockpit design.

Regards, Robin Bamps.

When Sabena placed the order, it was the largest order ever for Avros (32 planes at once). And I don't think it has ever been exceeded. It also did not create the problems of the large Airbus order (34 planes and a bankruptcy).

I did just check that link, and that's the same message I keep getting, I thought maybe it was a problem with my system, as my PC can generate some weird messages when it wants to!

I suppose I didn't put what I said about the 717 very well. By the same basic design I should have said that although it resembles the DC9 in a superficial way, the 717 is an updated and advanced aircraft, it just looks like the DC9 from the outside. I don't think that any Embraer aircraft is a good bet, they are too narrow and can't have much capacity.

Yeah, indeed. It would be cool if one of the flightsim guys could make an SNBA livery for the B717and ERJ170, so that we can see screenshots of them.

Didn't Northwest order 36 Avro RJ-85s?

Yes it did, that's why SNBA is the world's second biggest Avro operator. That's not bad for little country as ours. click HERE to see the order book

I've just another question. Imagine the Avro RJX program wouldn't have been stopped. Would SNBA have considered the RJX as a potential candidate for renewing their fleet, or not :?:

Bart,

Was not one of the reasons of the end of the RJX program the bankrupt of Sabena? Sabena should have been one of the main costumers.

One of the advantages of the Boeing 717 is, that the engines are in the back and there is less engine noise in the cabin.

The other advantage is that the Boeing 717 is a proven, reliable design. I don't think there's any competition in that list.

Another advantage is that you could get more dicount on the B717 than on the Embraer, because the B717 is not as popular than the ERJ170.

I also think the B717 has less maintenance costs.

Let's wiat and see.
