12 more airlines are interested and already received their offer from Boeing. ANA will receive their first 7E7 in 2008 and will be indeed their launch customer.
This is the biggest launch order Boeing ever had in it's history, it looks like Boeing made the right choice with their 7E7, good to hear and what a plane what a plane

Don't forget that there are three basic models for the 7E7 (-3, -8, -9). ANA bought two of them, with quite different characteristics. They should replace the 757, 767 and DC10.Avro wrote:But 50 planes, isn't that much for ANA![]()

The 7E7 looks so small
I've heard in the news that the 7E7 is a kind of rival of the airbus A380 (if I look to the seize of both aircraft, I can't compare these with each other...). The idea of airbus is to make big aircrafts that flies the passengers to a big central airport (e.g.) somewhere in Europe, and from that central point are passengers able to make a transit to a smaller aircraft what brings them to their destination, so the smaller airports. I couldn't remember it so good, because it was short news.

The 7E7 is in no way a competitor to the a380 ! Boeing believes in small point to point routes, Airbus focuses on the bigger routes from slot-restrained airports with the a380. An a380 can hold 555 people, the 7E7 200-300, depending on version.
I love the design, modern good looking airplane (it sometimes looks like a big EMBREAR190 though).
The 7E7 is meant to replace 767-300 & -200, and the a321
(found on A.net)
" Today’s 7E7 order will lead to the eventual replacement of ANA’s fleet of 61 medium-sized aircraft – 52 Boeing 767-300s, 2 Boeing 767-200s, and 7 Airbus A321s -- with 50 Boeing 7E7-3 (short haul) and 7E7-8 (long haul) models. The exact delivery schedule and mix is to be determined this summer."

Isn't it odd that they replace 61 aircraft with 50 new ones? Or will there be a follow up order? I would expect ANA to expand rather then to shrink over the next five years... any thoughts?

I'm going out on a limb here, but expect the curvy widshield (particularly the angled frame) and the wavy tail surface to be dropped when the plane starts to "get real".
In regards to the aircraft's performance, I'm a bit skeptic that they can make a plane thats 20% cheaper to operate, costs the same as a 767, uses unproven technology both in the engines and on the airframe and all of this in less then 5 years.
I see a few scenarios playing out:
- They meet their performance specs but blow their price and timeframe estimates
- They go for less ambitious performance gains and use more proven technology and meet cost/time predictions.
Note that in the first case they still can market the plane for the price they announced - but won't be making too much money off it. Considering their current predicament in the marketplace I wouldn't say thats improbable.

I agree with you mrocktor. Boeing tells everybody that the 7E7 will be made out of a " new technology", which seems great. But they never say what this new technology really consists of
I know they probably want to keep it a secret for some time, but what could this new "revolutionary" technology, be made of ????
