Will Airbus have to crash land the A380 for certification?

Does anyone know if certification of the A380 or any other aircrafts, will require a controlled crash landing. For example trying to land without the landing gear fully deployed?

No, there is no requirement for a real crash landing. The structure is tested on the stand well beyond the stresses generated by a controlled landing without landing gear anyway.

It must be proven (by analysis) that no uncontrolled fuel leakage will ocurr and that the escape devices (doors, slides etc.) will be functional after such an event.

FAR 25.561 - "Emergency landing conditions" and AC 25.944-1 "Fuel system protection during wheels up landing" are the applicable requirements.

As far as I know you do all those kind of testings numerically on computers. Hereby you will safe a lot of money !!!!!!!

I would have loved to have attended a controlled crash landing of this new big bird.

Yep they even need to do those kind of tricks for the certification Bart.

I once saw a movie of the 747 performing these tricks.

Be careful what you say! although no doubt they will do tail strikes with the A380, it should put the A340-600 pic to shame hey!

I remember that the Embraer 170 had to make an emergency landing during the test flight. Only this was not a controlled since the landing gear was really stuck! However the emergency landing was perfectly by the book and it showed right away the Embraer 170 was capable o do those kind of landings.

Not sure what your source is, but the E170 did not have a gear jam. In that incident the pilot forgot to lower the gear. He reportedly thought he had blown some tires and only realized he was gear up when he deplaned.

I agree with you there.

Impressive tailstrike picture though. I understand that to determin the minimum take-off speed there's no better test than reality (I suppose they try to confirm and validate previous computer simulations trhough such processes)

Is there any picture of other planes doing that test
